DS11 has been hacking away for the past few weeks with bronchitis and this morning woke up after a nice 12 hour rest, was up for an hour and took and hour nap. Good thing we have a Sunday urgent care available since I knew it has now turned into pneumonia. We caught it early enough that I don't think his asthma will act up but he is taking another nap now waiting for the Zithromax to kick in. Poor kid!

Poor little guy. I hope he gets better soon. It's good that you caught it early.

Make sure he drinks A LOT of water.

I had pneumonia last year and missed close to three weeks of work. I had to drink a ton of water. It makes it had to rest when you're going to the bathroom every half hour.

Hope he's feeling better soon

Poor thing. He's probably in pain if it's developed into pneumonia. If he complains of chest or back pain, tylenol will help some. Hope he feels better soon!

If your child has asthma, the best cough med for him is his rescue inhaler or nebulizer. He should be using his albuterol every few hours or as his doctor recommends. Using his nebulizer will allow him to rest and also will make it easier to cough up the mucus. Please put a call in for his asthma doctor to discuss it asap.

He has actually been doing really well without the nebulizer and now that he has a good does of antibiotics in him his cough has subsided quite a bit. 1P2P's, he has been complaining about his ribs hurting. They did a throat swab to make sure he didn't have strep and he is a big time gager so while he was gaging from the strep test the poor kid started crying from the pain in his chest--he does NOT cry at anything so I know it hurt. He is still sleeping this morning, very unusual for him, so that is good.

So glad that you caught it before it turned into a bigger problem. My father just spent over 4 weeks in the hospital with double pneumonia, collapsed lung, pulmonary embolism, and other blood clots because he was an idiot and didn't go to the doctor when he wasn't feeling well a few months ago. 21 of those days were spent in ICU on a ventilator in a sedated coma. So scary, and so preventable.

Hope your little guy feels better soon!

Hope he's feeling better soon, sounds like he's able to rest now that the Zithro is kicking in, he definitely needs the rest.

I took my DD14.5 in to the ped on friday for the same thing after 5 days of coughing and she's got the beginning of pneumonia and he they put her on a Z pack too. She also has cold induced asthma and I had started her on her Flovent and Albuterol as soon as that terrible cough started and we need to continue on them for awhile now too. She even spiked a temp of 102 the night before I had her seen, that's when I knew something more than a cold/asthma was going on.

I put a cool mist humidfier in her room at night and that seemed to help with the cough and bringing up the mucuos, you might want to try that with you're DS if you haven't already.

Good catch, mom. Don't be afraid to use his nebs--it will really improve his lung function and help him recover faster. Hope he gets better soon. I had pneumonia last year and I did not feel pretty.

Hope he is feeling better, soon. Poor guy.
