Pneumonia w/ vacation in two weeks - Update post #24

As with everything else, it varies from person to person. My 2 year old had pneumonia this winter, and other than a cough, you wouldn't have ever known he was sick.

It depends on a lot of factors. How big is the pneumonia? How badly is it effecting his breathing? Is he otherwise healthy. I had pneumonia (we are going back here) in 2000, 2 weeks before our 1st WDW trip. I was back to my normal self by the trip.

.

I have had pneumonia more times than I can count- sometimes didn't even know it until I went to the Dr for an annoying cough and had a chest xray- one time I was knocked on my butt for 2 weeks but most of the time in a matter of a few days I was up and back to work.

I'm really surprised with the posters that are just brushing pneumonia off. It can be very, very serious. DS took a few weeks to get over it, and even when he returned to school, he was in bed by 7pm, he was so tired...and he's 13.

If it were my family, I would postpone the trip, but everybody's different and recovers at different rates.

I don't think anyone is brushing it off. Pneumonia varies greatly from person to person. All anyone can do is share their own personal experience with the OP.

I had about 3 days where I was out of commission and things like going up stairs took real effort. After that I was back at work and mostly doing my regular routine. I took about a week off from the gym but that was about the only concession. Maybe I dumb not to have laid low for a longer period but I didn't seem to need to do so.

OP here. DH had a follow up appointment today. Doctor is very happy with improvement. He still has a pretty bad cough, but that will take time to resolve.

Bad news...I came down with a bad head cold this past Friday. DH's illness went straight to his lungs, but mine seems to be exclusively a head cold. I'm on the mend now and should be good to go by Saturday.

No problems with DD as of yet. :woohoo:

I was thinking the same thing. I had pneumonia three years ago and I was out of work for two and a half weeks. The doctor even refused to sign a release for me to go back to work until my X-ray was clear. It knocked me for a loop for about four weeks in total until I felt normal again.

Is there a difference maybe between walking pneumonia and pneumonia?
