PM EMH drops from THREE Hours to TWO Hours

Agree! Our favourite times in WDW are the last hour of EMH, epecially when it's late, the park is often empty. No people anywhere and all rides are literally walk-ons. It's literally like having the park to yourself. Oh yeah, and Country Bears is really boring!

Maybe not where you are; my weather report may be a little different. My family loves PM-EMH; we'd take 4 hours if we could get it! Quite honestly because of this, we may decide to stay off-site now for our 2013 family reunion trip.

For me, anything "Country Bear Jamboree" gives me the heeby-jeebies; that's obviously not the way you feel.

To each their own!

Exactly the problem! Disney didn't want a park open with no people anywhere, they wanted a park that wasn't as busy as it was during the day. Big difference.

Face it, if a lot of resort guests were taking advantage of the 3rd hour of EMH, they wouldn't have been so quick to cut it. People are upset about the cut of a perk that it sounds like most people didn't use. "No people anywhere" and "having the park to yourself" is not a good thing to WDW.

Yeah, obviously. I don't like it, but I understand why they're doing it ;) But the whole POINT of EMH is so the resort guests could get "the park to yourself", they used that phrase in the promos. The thing about business is that if you try to save money on everything, you'll be likely to end up losing a fair share of your customers. Even more for Disney World, as the customer service and magic are such important part of their product. It's a careful balance. They're trying to get money back for building AoA and Avatarland and expanding Fantasyland by increasing ticketprices (a LOT for kids), removing a snack credit from the dining plan etc. It all adds up money wise, and now experience wise. Personally I really wish they'd find other ways of saving money than taking the last EMH.

Losing the third hour in the summer months isn't a HUGE deal to us since the parks are open later to begin with. While we always intend to stay till 2am, sometimes we give up between 1 and 2.

But in the "off season" months, when the third hour would go until midnight, we stayed till the very end (along with a lot of other people).

I am curious to see reports back on EMH crowd levels around MLK weekend, Presidents Week etc. when the EMH ends in the 11pm/12am range. Will TPTB in turn extend regular park closing to 11pm or even midnight for Spring Break and/or Easter Week, thus keeping the EMH end time the same as it would have been with 3 hours?

Only time will tell, I guess (pun intended ;))

Exactly, no people, so why would they run park for no people when they can save, even if it is little saving, some additions are also little but we all love them.

After thinking it over:

Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom
Art of Animation Resort
New FantasyLand
DVC Expansions
Test Track Revamp
Land of Pandora
Rumored: Radiator Springs Racers

...I think I can live with one hour less in the parks each night.

The attractions you mention would be open to all guests. EMH was for resort guests only, so not what I would look to when deciding where to stay.

::yes::

As for those who never do the last hour, (read- so, I don't really care if they nix it), you will care when your daytime lines are longer. And, I'm guessing you will care when Disney does cut something you enjoy that does directly affect you, and, they will. We never do the AM EMH's, but if they nixed them, I wouldn't post on a thread full of folks who were upset about it that, well, we don't go to those, anyway . . .

Bottom line, it's M-O-N-E-Y. Disney isn't interested in just making profits, it wants to make huge profits, and they've calculated this as yet another means to that end. To listen to some folks, you'd think poor little Disney is just barely scraping by. Even during these tough times, they've been able to make several pricey acquisitions/mergers, and the parks have still remained pretty darn busy (I think attendance has actually been up). Remember, Disney is MUCH more than just the parks. (Yes, each division operates within its own budgetary constraints, etc., but they're still part of the whole.) And, do you think they'd be going forward with these new expansions/projects if they were that tight finacially?

I think for most of us, it's not just about the hour being cut. It's losing that on top of lots of other things we consider to be the touches that make Disney special, not just another theme park. :sad1:

However, other people are getting new things that we don't appreciate (such as all the folks who will visit for the first time and have that special experience at Be Our Guest become something they'll remember for a lifetime). The more often we go back, the more we're going to become less appreciative of what Disney offers, since Disney's going to be working to bring in the next generation of visitors instead of us, and like it or not, they aren't going to like things the way we like them. That's one reason why I like to bring friends, because even though things aren't as special for us like they were when we first started visiting, we are able to enjoy those first-time special feelings vicariously through the friends we bring with us.

Well said.

Last year it was the characters at EMH. (And if anyone wants to dredge up that thread, you'll notice I said "and in a year they're going to tell us that EMH just isn't that popular any more and cut back on that......" :rolleyes1)

This year it's that extra hour of EMH. I have only ever stayed for that last hour one time, but it still makes me very uneasy to wonder what's next.

It used to be simple enough to find ways of working around the massive crowds Disney can attract. One by one they are eliminating those ways, I suppose all in the name of "efficiency". With the new Fantasyland Expansion coming on board, I had considered late night EMH as one of the ways to cope if the crowds were too big during the day. And yes, EMH still exists, but that last hour was the only one that seemed to make enough difference, especially in the off-season times we go.

So true! :thumbsup2
I noticed that people complain about tiniest cuts and miss what Disney adds. Many against Avatar Land, OK, not exactly your taste, but FE is not my taste but I am happy to see something new. Wizards game at MK, not for everyone but a nice addition. And there are plenty of examples like that. Nobody likes everything in Disney but there is something for everyone. They do add constantly, so there is no reason to concentrate only on cuts, unless you(general you) just love to complain.;)

Bumping... to spread the word to DISer's who don't read the boards every day.

I think it's difficult for some people to understand that something that isn't important to them can be important to others.

MK at night when it's late and nearly empty is my absolute favourite time anywhere in WDW and anywhere else for that matter, apart from Fantasmic. ;)

If they wanted to remove all thrill rides from all the parks, plus all the animatronic shows I'd be totally fine with that. The late EMH on the other hand is important to me.

I have no problem understanding why they're removing the last EMH, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

It seems like they are not only cutting the evening EMH from 3 to 2 hours but perhaps cutting the frequency? We are going to be in Disney World from January 10-17 and there are currently no evening EMH scheduled for Epcot. There is EMH on Monday, January 7 and not another one until Friday, January 18 :confused3

If I recall correctly, we're getting one extra EMH in February, as compared to our trip last year.

Disney always ADDS hours and events to the calendar as the actual dates get closer, so they might be adding PM EMH in Feb.

Stay tuned.

I really dislike the "sky is falling" comment!

It seems to me to just be a smart aleck way to say "I don't care that you are concerned about xyz topic, it's not important to me so therefore your concern is invalid."

Flame suit on - go ahead and roast away!

This makes my family very sad. :sad1: We are one of the ones that took advantage of EMH evenings in Magic Kingdom every trip. We always stay until the end and some of my favorite memories in the park, were during that last hour. Lots of changes and not many of them positive for my family!
