Hi. This is my first post here, but have enjoyed all of your tips and info. Thank you!

My question: My husband and I are overweight. We've been on some rides in the past that were a bit tight. I was wondering if any of you have had this problem and how Disney World compares with other parks and their rides.

Are there certain rides we should avoid?

HI there!
Let me reassure you that you will have a fabulous time! there are people of all shapes and sizes, so don't worry about it. I am a "pooh sized" gal, and I didn't have any problems with the rides. I was able to go on all of them and have a great time. This includes Rock-n-roller coater, TOT, all fantasyland, I even rode on the carousel in fantasyland! ;) I was on nearly all the rides and had the time of my life. Relax, enjoy and you too will have the time of your life!

Welcome to the boards! Glad to have you!

I think you will find that Disney is very accomidating to those of use that are "Pooh-sized." I had concerns that the rides may be tight or that I would not fit at all, but that never happened.

I'm not sure what other parks you have been to but I have read on these boards about people who could not fit on rides at Universal yet could ride everything at Disney.

Here is a link to a thread where this same question came up a few weeks ago. There were a lot of good responses.

You should be comfortable on most things. I am rather overweight myself and really only have a problem withthe tight fit on Space Mtn. Everything else is no problem. You should be fine, if you would like to read more on this topic try www.wdwig.com and scroll to wdw at large--there may of your questions will be answered.

Thank you! I looked through some of the posts and saw that 300lb'ers had no problems! I'm at a svelte, "slightly over 200 lbs", so I should be just fine. ;)

I didn't realize how much this was weighing on my mind (no pun intended). Now I can relax and get really excited! We've booked our trip for mid October.

You will have so much fun! There is so much diversity at WDW. I have never felt the "fat attitude" that you get from some folks.

Not only are we large - we're wearing huge mutlicolored tee-shirts with Goofy on them! And we fit right in.

Enjoy your visit.

Just wanted to say Welcome to the Dis!

I too have never had a problem. I just want to add that I have also never had a problem at Universal either (didn't do IOA).

I am well over 200 lbs myself. I have never had a problem with any of the rides & believe me, I ride them all. I was concerned when we went on our first trip too but not to worry you should not have any problems.:)

"Pooh sized"!? I love that description!

In any case, I can assure you all that size is truly not going to be an issue at WDW. I have two friends that are huge World fans and they are generously proportioned. Neither have ever experienced any problems ever! So enjoy!

Now, what about for folks like me who are 6'4" and higher? Half the ride, I spend licking my knee cap!

Beware the Tea Cups!

I am not a huge guy at all (ok by goverment standards I'm obese... but those standards are rough!). But the teacups were very snug.

Be cautious on this one, especially if there is a long wait.

Am I off here or does anybody else strugle with the Tea Cups?

Welcome to the DIS, WillAndFinn'sMom. I'm really glad you found us. I'm fairly poohsized, myself and I've never found a ride that didn't "fit".

Some of the turnstiles are a little snug but I just go sideways through those ;) I'm working on that though and thanks to WISH I'm having great success at getting smaller :)

I'm so glad you will be here with us on DIS, now. It's lots of fun planning a trip, here :)

Hi! Welcome to the DIS! :sunny:

You sound like you are around the same size as me and I don't have problems with any of the rides at Disney. :)

I'm not sure what size your husband is though, sometimes 2 large people in the same ride can be a tight fit and make it a little uncomfortable. If he is the same size as you, you most likely will have no problems, if he is slightly larger though I would take some precautions on certain rides, such as Aladdin's Flying Carpets, two of us in it couldn't get our seatbelt to fasten and it was a very snug fit, ask if you can have a carpet to yourselves so you can ride one in the front and one in the back. Kali River Rapids, ask if you can have your own seat, the seat belts don't stretch very far, and you will get really banged up on the side of the seat when the raft hits something. Teacups can definitely be a tight squeeze because of the turn wheel in the middle. Primevil Whirl, make sure you two are the only ones in the car and use both seats, if you try to do four in a car you will be so banged, bruised and hurting when that ride is over, I think that is probably even true if it is four smaller people though. These are just some things I have noticed, most rides will be absolutely fine. I hope this is helpful to you and that you guys have a wonderful trip! :sunny:

Hi  Welcome to the DIS :)

I'm not pooh sized but tall for my age and some of the rides can be tight in the leg room

I haven't been to WDW for awhile but even during my last trip I was still very overweight. I don't remember any problems with rides. BUT I do remember my family always seeming to be 10 steps in front of me!

Welcome to the DIS --- and enjoy your trip!
:D

Hi ... and Welcome to the DIS! I agree with what Princess Michelle said about some of the rides. She's given some really good "heads up" info. We have found that splitting up the kids so we each take one on a ride to be a great solution. And I can totally relate to that "going thru sideways in the turnstiles" -- it can be a real challenge, especially if you have a backpack on, and you're trying to help a little one ahead of you through as well  Like Nativetxn, I too am trying to get smaller, and I get my daily inspiration from the WISH board here on the DIS. I look forward to the day that those darned turnstiles are a little easier to manoevre ;)

Welcome ... and have a great trip!

First of all, welcome to the DIS  I have to echo some of what Princess Michelle said... especially with the 4 people in Primevil Whirl. The four of us in that was awful (and I don't think all of us were that big) and I still have a bruise or two on me from that one! Another one I remember was Dumbo. Two of us adults rode it and they replaced the belts from the last time I was on it. I (not really Pooh sized, but a wide hipped size 12) rode it with my friend who is a size 20/22 and we almost could not get that belt done.

I can only comment on the problems of a tall person. I'm 6'9" and I really had a hard time fitting on Space Mountain and the Tea Cups. Usually on a ride I have to sit with my ankles crossed and tucked up under me but that doesn't work on SM. I rode it twice and was in pain each time. Finally on the 3rd time I sat in the last seat and put a foot up along side the seat in front of me (middle seat) and I fit. It is counterintuitive to stretch out to fit but that is the way it works. Luckily I like the ride so much I kept riding it until I figured out the best way to sit.

As far as the Tea Cups it is just hard to maneuver around the center post to get seated. Once I was seated it was ok.

Yikes Elk34! And I thought I had a tight squeeze at 6'4"! I can still empathize nevertheless. It's pretty tight on those two rides at my height as well!
