I don't get it. One argument from the union is less work for the union because the waterless urinal requires less piping. So what? If the company that's paying the bills and wants waterless urinals, they should get them (as long as the building codes allow them and that's part of the issue, they don't have an official policy for waterless urinals because they're new technology). I really don't like it when unions place a strangleholds like this. I don't even know why the union has a say in what technology they will work with. It's a job, just do it for cryin' out loud. Ugh!

So unless the union has a valid reason for this, unions will continue to be looked upon with the stereotypical view that hounds them.

Won't plumbers still have to install them anyway? I presume there are still pipes involved - with or without water.

I agree....this is just stupid. There is a saying in MA regarding unions - Don't Kill The Job. :sunny:

Unfreakingbelievable.

And anyone wonders why Hoffa went missing?

At least we're not France where you have rioting if you try to change a law that forces you to employ everyone whose hired for 2 years.

Waterless? That sounds very gross. Never thought I start appreciating the toilet.

They have them at my school. You don't even notice the difference. The urine doesn't just sit there, use your imagination.

They're much better for the environment as well.

Looks pretty interesting. As long as they don't smell, I kind of like the idea.
Thanks for the link!

Not for me. Rinse that stuff away. Ick.

I have a couple of customers (including the building mentioned in the article) that have these. One is a state run agency. They seem to work well and if they save water, why not?

To the tune of 1.6 million gallons per year for that one building alone?

Yes. To the tune of 800 trillion-gazillion gallons, if need be. It sounds very gross and unsanitary to me. ...but that's just me.

OK, I can see that the technology traps the urine but what about the funnel? Nothing ever rinses it that I can see and that's rather grotesque. Actually this subject is itself. ;)

The cleaning crews clean the outside of the urinal at night just like they (should have) been doing with regular models. They may dump a little cleaner to flush out the trap but that's all that's needed.
