:listen: i ordered a pal mickey and used paypal, i've done this before and it was fine, i got an email that said someone has changed your email address on paypal , if you have any questions or concerns click here..so i did and it took me to a site that looked like paypal and said ,"we are doing a security check pls. enter you credit card number and pls remember this is to make you safer.. it was odd who askes for a cc # instead of user name and password, so i sent it to paypal as a fraud and they sent me this:

After review, we can confirm that the email you received was not sent
by
PayPal. Any website which may be linked to this email is not authorized
or used by PayPal.
Commonly referred to as phishing, these emails are sent by fraudsters
in
an attempt to collect sensitive personal or financial information from
the recipients. PayPal takes phishing threats seriously. Our fraud
prevention specialists are working 24/7 to help protect you and enable
the community to stay safe.
pls. be wary.. :badpc:

I get those every so often also. I delete them. I also check my paypal account ever so often (I log into paypal, no links) so if they have a message for me I will read it straight from them, not an email "They" (whomever "they" frauds are). Thank you for passing on the info, it's always good to keep us on our toes for that group called "THEY". "They" will continue to try to get our money, ID, whatever "They" can. "They" are just not nice people.

Have a Great Disney Day!

I get those too and on my email that doesn't have a registered ebay account. At first I was like yeah they don't have my current info because I tried to change it but it isn't taking(on their web site not from an email ;) ) Anyway I thought about it and was thinking it had to be spam I emailed them the letter and they said the same thing. ;) So I agree make sure you don't give info through email links. :)

Thanks for the heads up. I sometimes get e-mail from someplace that says it is paypal asking me to update my information. The funny thing is I have never been a member so I know it's a hoax. So scary that we all have to be super cautious today so we don't get ripped off.

You have to remember one important point and Ebay, Paypal will never ask you for your information. Anytime you find any links asking for youe sensitive information never give it to them. They're out there and they're trying to get your money!

I have gotten a few of these recently. Luckily I had seen warnings about them so knew not to respond. They look SO real and "official" with the perfect logos, fancy color scheme, etc. it's not surprising so many people fall for them.

I often wonder how much better the world would be if the clever people who spend so much time, imagination, and effort on scamming people would use their skills for good rather than to cause harm.

Bogus Paypal and Ebay emails are rampant! I just had a couple the other day. I learned the hard way because I actually fell for one a year or so ago and entered my social sec. # :earseek: and credit card #. I didn't think anything of it until I got a strange Ebay email and forwarded it to spoof and it came back fraudulent so then I got to thinking about the one I had prior from Paypal and found it and sent it to Paypal and yep, it was bogus too. I had to contact all my cc's and changed my bank accounts. Luckily no one used any of my info and I didn't loose any money but it was a huge pain in the bum.

Another way to tell they are fraudulent is that Paypal will always address you in the email by the name the account is registered to and not "dear paypal member" I always forward them to spoof@paypal.com so they at least know what kinds of emails are going around. I hadn't received them for awhile but they seemed to have started up again.

Great information. This is important to know for most frauds like this. PayPal, Ebay, banks, etc will not address you by "Dear member" or something generic like that. That is a dead give away that it is fraud.

A good anti-phishing tool to use which can be installed on your browser, be it IE or, my favorite, Firefox: The netcraft tool bar. If you clck on a link in one of those bogus emails, Netcraft will pop up a warning saying that the web address does not correspond to the IP address. You can get it here and also see what it looks like installed: http://toolbar.netcraft.com/.
