Pls pls help!! Need advice on planning our vacation in 3 weeks!!

We're vacationing for 3 weeks from 18th August and as yet I haven't sorted out my first weeks accomodation. For the following 2 weeks we're ok as we have a vacation home in Kissimmee, so that's sorted.

But I need help with my first week. It'll be me and my 3 children aged 4, 5 & 7 plus Grandad is coming to lend a hand. The kids would be thrilled to stay near or on the beach for a few days so we thought it would be good to go stay onsite at Disney for 3 or 4 nights and drive to somewhere else for another 3 or 4 night stay at the Beach.

Now this is where I need some help!!!

Which resort would you recommend at Disney - have previously stayed at the Poly and loved it. Disney have recommended for 5 people a stay at Fort Wildnerness Cabins but I haven't got much info about them as yet.

Also can anybody help with somewhere to stay not too far from Disney (say a 1 - 2hr drive) at the Beach and any hotel recommendations.

first - do you want a gulf vacation or an ocean vacation?

Tampa with its wonderful beaches is around 90 minutes away (probably closer to 2 hours) - Dayton is the the other way on the ocean side.

I think Tampa has more and better places to stay at than Dayton - but that is probably because I like the gulf area more than the ocean side.
