pls help...new dvc member...

hi everyone! i am new to dvc...but haven't really used it yet. so hubby tells me i should plan a trip to asia for 2012 so we can visit the 2 parks there. yes, it'll be a long trip, since we'll be visiting japan & hong kong. we thought since we'll be flying to asia, might as well make it long, and visit the 2 countries. our boys will be 10 & 13 by then. i don't even know where i should begin planning for this. any thoughts/ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! thanx!

You wouldn't be staying at DVC resorts, you need to transfer your points out of DVC and into RCI and find hotels to stay in. I don't know if this could prove to be challenging, I don't have any experience in traveling overseas. There is a $95 fee to trade into RCI and I don't think you can get the points back into DVC once you trade out.

Please DVC/RCI veterans help me out here. I'm out of my league on this one!!!!!

ok, maybe not at dvc, since there are no dvc in asia, right? but what about at the disney resorts in hong kong/japan? can i use points to stay at those disney resorts? or not? i don't even know!! thanx for helping!

I'm not sure. We'll hold tight and I know someone with more experience will jump in to help out. However, I will say, if it is anything like using DVC points here in the states, it takes a huge amount of points to stay in one of the other Disney on site resorts.

Just remember when making your plans that you can only bank for one year, and you can only borrow one year ahead. So, if you want to travel there in 2012, you can use a total of 2011 banked points, 2012 points and 2013 borrowed points (a total of 3 year of points max).

On the member website, under Disney Collection, then Disney Destinations Around the World, you can get the point charts for:

Tokyo Disneyland Hotel
Tokyo Disneysea Hotel Miracosta
Ambassador Hotel (not sure where that is)
Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel
(and other US locations)

It would require the $95 fee to use the Disney collection resorts . It looks like the points range from about 40-55 per night, during Value season (the lowest time).

The 2010 & 2011 point charts for the Tokyo and Hong Kong resorts are available on the Member website. The 2012 charts are not yet posted.

For 2010 and 2011 it is 37 to 95 points per night, depending upon travel dates, resort, and view.

You can use points to stay at The Disney Hollywood Hotel and the Disneyland Hotel in Hong Kong. The Hollywood Hotel Garden View rooms 2010 point shart has them at no more than 40 point/nightwith Seaview no more than 50 points but if you can spend up to 68 pts a nigth for a Balcony SeaView room at the Disneyland Hotel. You can book up to 6 months ahead of your trip at Hong Kong. Room occupancy in 4 and if you cancel with less than 15 days before your trip you lose all points.

Tokyo: points range from 47 to 97 per night. Maximum occupancy of room is 3- there are 2 twin beds and a trundle bed in the rooms. Reservations can be made at 6 months out and cancelling with 15 or less days will forfiet all points.

Again the point charts I have are for 2010 trips.

Something else to consider (which is something we're considering for 2012) - Adventures by Disney has a China tour that ends with 2 days at Disneyland Hong Kong. I think it's a 12-14 day tour with stops all over China. You could always tack a few days at Tokyo Disney at the beginning or end of that trip.

You can do ABD with DVC points, but the China tour would be quite a lot of points! Of course, it's quite a lot of money as well... But you see so much!

Yeah, just going off of memory, but ABD to China is between 700-800 points per adult.

Just wanted to mention that if you need more points than 3 Use Year's allotment of points (Banked, Current & Borrowed points) you can get points transferred to your DVC account from another DVC member to have additional points available to use. You are allowed only one transfer of points per Use Year (either points transferred into your account or points you transfer out to another member). If their banking deadline has not passed you can bank points that are transferred to your account into the next upcoming Use Year.

One could stay at Disney resorts there, just not DVC resorts. The Disney Collection could be one way to go, but the points required to stay there isn't cheap.
