Looking at both Pop (which we loved...but could have just been because we had a convenient room) to Riverside (which we have never stayed in before). Obviously I know one is value and one is moderate but looking into both and just wondering if someone who had staying in both could give me their opinion.
Thanks!

In my opinion there is no comparison. It's like apples to oranges. Pop is more cartoonish and brightly colored and has a bit more of motel feel. I'm not saying that's a bad thing - just not as "fancy" of a room. POR has the outdoor walkways and no balcony but the rooms are a bit more decorated and feel more "hotel". Both have a food court however the food court at POR is smaller. Additionally POR has a bar area (not just a pool bar) and a full sit down restaurant. POR also has a boat to DTD which is wonderful. Perhaps for me the biggest difference was the grounds. The grounds at POR are nothing short of beautiful. Lush landscape and beautifully themed. There are boats to rent and the pool is more themed with a water slide. I personally enjoy the more "resort" feel of POR over POP, but that's why Disney has so many themes to pick from!

I have stayed at both several times and much prefer the Riverside. I like the fact that it is more of a "resort" feel and quieter. The fact that the rooms are larger doesn't hurt either. My granddaughter is 12 and she prefers the Riverside resort as well.

Love them both for different reasons. POR is a beautiful resort, with lush landscaping. It is so wonderful to just walk around and be immersed in the whole thing. It's main pool area is a ton of fun. The rooms are fine...depends on whether you prefer the more 'rustic' feel of AB or the more 'formal' feel of the mansions. It can be a bit spread out if you get a room in a more distant building but that just means a nicer, more relaxed walk for coffee in the morning.
And being able to take the boat to DTD is great. The buses do make multiple stops within the resort before leaving for the parks.
Pop is bright and colorful. Really over the top theming. There isn't much in the way of landscaping though. But it is a lively resort. I did enjoy walking around the outside of the resort....fun things to see along the way. I did like the food court area..yes, it is loud and sometimes rowdy. But if you can be there at off times, it's much more relaxing!! The buses are very good..you don't share with any other resorts. Once you are on the bus, you do to the park. The main pool is pretty but there is no slide...none of the value resorts have slides. I did find the quiet pools to be nice since they were seldom very busy. Since you've stayed at Pop, you already know all this though.

I guess it all depends on what you want in a resort. Relaxing? More adult? Go with POR. But, if you want bright and happy and in your face? Stick with Pop.

I say go with POR. You're not buying it...you're just staying there for a brief time. If you decide you don't really care for it, great. No need to stay there again.

I stayed at both last year - POR in November 2012 and Pop in December 2012.

Here are the differences I noticed.

POR - 2 quiet pools and 1 main pool with slide, hot tub, bigger room, towels in room are nicer, I thought bedding was nicer. Food court was bigger. Gift shop was bigger. Boat to DTD. Buses everywhere else with multiple bus stops at resort. The grounds don't scream Disney but there are little Disney touches everywhere if you look closely.

POP - 1 pool no slide, smaller room, very basic towels and bedding. Food court seemed small to me for amount of people, Gift shop was smaller. Only 1 bus stop to everywhere. Love the lobby with all the cool stuff in it and doing the hustle in the lobby brought back great memories of the dances I went to as a teen. And the huge icons around the resort are fun.

Buzznina corrected me - POP has 3 pools - the main feature pool and 2 quiet pools. So I thought I'd come back and add that to my post.

Maxiesmom corrected me about the POR pools - there are 5 quiet pools and the feature pool with the slide. As many times as I've stayed there, I've never seen the other pools. I don't even think I've ever done more than do a minor walk through Alligator Bayou. LOL

Pop is my favorite value so far and POR is my favorite moderate. So I would base it on your budget when you book.

Just so you know though - price out both resorts.

I was booked in POP with the spring offer going in May and decided to see how much POR would be with the spring offer and discovered that the difference was just a little bit over 150.00 for my 4 night stay.
Since I love POR so much - I switched to it since next time I may not have the extra funds.

Good luck deciding.

Pop is our favorite Value. POR is our favorite Mod.

To compare the two would be difficult. One is a value, the other is a Mod. Of course, the Mod will have larger rooms & more amenities. It's like comparing a 5 foot tall person & a 6 foot 4 inch person in reaching things on some shelves. One cannot reach the high shelves as easily due to their given height, not because they lack in trying to reach. Comparing Pop to POR is really not fair because Pop would be the 5 foot tall person.

Both are tops in their own class. We love them both! :thumbsup2

It has not been mentioned, but pop has double beds, POR has queen beds.

Just to correct a statement, POP has 3 pools not just 1. We have stayed at each and if we can swing it we try to go to POR, queen beds, a bit bigger room, double sinks and extra family activities.

And POR has 5 quiet pools, plus the feature pool.:)
