My 4 year old Siamese is very sick. He hasn't been himself and we brought him to the vet yesterday. He had a high fever and was dehydrated, but the x-rays and FIV and feline leukemia tests were all negative, but that doesn't mean that it isn't some other type of cancer or something else. His white blood cell count is very low and the vet can't figure out what is wrong with him. They gave him fluids (under the skin) and a shot of antibiotics. They are retesting the blood work in the lab this morning, hoping to get some better idea of what is happening.

He spent the entire night under the covers sleeping with DH and I (and to me he felt cooler), but still hasn't eaten or drunk anything in a couple days.

If the vet gets the same results from the lab, I'm not sure what we will do. :confused3 I may try to get a second opinion at another vet. I know Meezer is counting on us to make the right decisions, but it's so hard to know what to do.

Thank you.

Sorry to hear Meezer is not feeling well.....P & PD to you all

P & PD :wizard: on the way. Hope you get some answers soon!

So sorry to hear about your cat. It is hard to have our furbabies sick.

Rebecca

Poor kitty, lots of prayers and pixie dust to all of you. I hope the vet can solve the mystery soon, the not knowing is always the worst!

Jennifer, prayers and pixie dust headed to your kitty. Hope he feels better soon.

Thanks everyone, he's such a sweet boy, I hate to think of him not feeling well or suffering.

Sigh...the doctor we saw yesterday isn't in again until Wednesday. They *may* have the results of the blood work tonight, but there's no guarantee of that. I asked them to fax the results of the in-house work that was done yesterday - along with his x-rays and any notes, to our local vet so we can get their recommendation. I don't know if he'll need more fluids to get through the day, or if we are going to have to bring him to a "hospital" tomorrow.

DH said he's the same. Doesn't think he ate or drank anything while we've been gone all day. He's taking him this afternoon to his usual vet, see what they say. :confused3

:sad1: I feel like I've been crying all day.

I am sorry Jen that your kitty is ill. Cats are pretty special - ours "found" us on a winter day 9 yrs ago, and has hung around ever since. WE love him. He has gone through some ups and downs too, thank heavens we have a great young vet.
Hope they do come up with a diagnosis that can be taken care of with time, meds and love!!!

PD for the sweet bundle of fur. I hope he feels better soon. Can you give him liquids thru a small medicine syringe?

My darling boy is at the emergency hospital of Tufts. They think he ate something he shouldn't have (he's like that), it got stuck in there, got infected and now is causing an obstruction. He's had several sets of x-rays and they have all been inconclusive, so now he is having an ultrasound. They took my credit card number and sent me home :lmao: Really, I could have stayed, but those benches are very uncomfortable. They are going to call once they have the U/S results and if they see what they think they'll see, he'll go into surgery tonight. I knew there was a reason I had paid that credit card off...

Fingers crossed that they find something in there and are able to get it out without any damage to his intestines.

I was able to see him and give him a little rub, he actually looks pretty good, considering how sick he is. The doctor mentioned that he's very "bright" and that's a good sign of his strength.

Finally, a note to self-if I think one of our animals should go to Tufts, don't listen to DH, just take them.

Thanks everyone for thinking of him. :grouphug:

The doctor called just after 11:00 last night. The ultrasound didn't show any obstruction...which is good, no $3K operation, but bad, because they don't know what is causing the fever and low white blood cell count. So, they were giving him an antibiotic cocktail and putting him in the cat ward for the night. Tufts is a teaching hospital, so they will do rounds this morning and a new doctor will take over his case (they already may have).

So, while he's where he's supposed to be, the waiting game is still going on. As a world renowned hospital, if they can't come up with an answer, nobody can.

P&PD! Poor furbaby! Hope he had a comfortable night and the antibiotics do the trick!

Poor Kitty boy! Hopefully they will come up with something today. Lots of prayers and hugs! :goodvibes

hope Meezer (and you) had a comfortable night, continued P & PD!

P&PD to you and your furbaby. Hope he is on the mend and back with you and your family soon!

Just saw this...so sorry to hear about your fur baby! :( After reading your first posts I was going to suggest Tufts but I see that he is already there, and as you said, if they can't figure out what is wrong then no-one can. I hope they can work their magic and get him back on his four feet once again. We have spent lots of time (and $$$$) at Tufts, but when your babies are hurting you'll do anything to help them.

Hope today will bring yo good news.

Jill

P.S. We go to the vet across from S&S in Milford on rt. 16 - their name has slipped my mind at the moment.

Hi Jennifer, wanted to check in to see if you had gotten any updates...continued P & PD!:hug:
