Oh my goodness... I guess I'm in the minority on this one. I just think it's sad to see a semi-classic like Space Mountain being turned into a rock concert-- lighting and all.

I see your point, but I respectfully disagree.
The HM and IASM overlays coincide with the underlying themes.
The SM "overlay" changes the entire theme of the attraction.
The only saving grace is that it's only four months long. Unfortunately, it's during the four months that I will be visiting.
We are at Crowne Plaza right now relaxing after a fun morning at Disneyland. My 16yo daughter, her 17yo boyfriend and my 12yo son rode Space Mountain last before meeting us for lunch and rest back at the hotel. They were sooo excited about the ride and told me about the Red Hot Chili Peppers song and lights during the ride. They said it is soo much better than the old Space Mountain.
My husband I were taking our 6yo daughter to do all the Princess stuff in
Fantasyland this morning, but we do intend on riding Space Mountain when we return to the park in a few minutes.
Aww I know how you feel. When they first started talking about making changes in the Pirates I about flipped my lid! My favorite ride, it was perfect and fine as is! LOL
I ended up liking the changes (and these aren't going anywhere!). But part of me always doesn't want anything to change.
So yeah just be glad it will go back to normal in 4 months. That and it's not like losing the Country Bears! I'm still upset about that!
I highly recommend it.. It was so cool to have it a bit different. The lights inside make it really cool.. The music.. My cousin snad I rode it on 12/18 and then today 1/3 and liked it better this time..
Get your FP early though. At 10:30 am the FP was already for 5:15 pm..
