Airtran finally released dates for my trip 5/13-5/21. I've been checking everyday. We can fly out of Philadephia for $83 each way, soooo cheap. It's been killing me not to book those flights. But it's an hour drive there. So I was trying to fly out of a very small airport 20 min from us which Airtran flies out of. So long story short......$354 each way!!!!!!!! Is this normal for them???? Can they really be that much more expensive than US Air???

Only an hour drive for $83 each way? I jump on that... I live in the Minneapolis Metro area and it is 45-60 minute drive to the airport...... not a big deal at all....

Book the $83 flights and don't look back...

Oh, just checked US Air again......down to $79 each way!!!!!

WTH! I was willing to pay more to fly a closer, easier, friendlier airport, but not $550 more for each person, that's insane!

This dates must have just gotten released because I check every single time I think about it (which is every other day at least!) Are flight $ just wacking when the first get released?

In my experience, Air Tran is often expensive when they are first released. They are also higher when you purchase tickets on the weekends. With Air Tran I always hold out for a sale as they usually have many of them.

Definitely book the $79 flights! That is an awesome price.

I agree with all of the above. Unless you can see that Airtran has a history of $79 flights from the small airport you want to fly from. Then I'd wait for a sale. If the $79 is an unheard of price for Airtran in your area, then I'd jump on it even if the airport is an hour away.

Airtran is just plain crazy.....that $354 outbound flight that I saw late last night is now $62 today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just when I was about to book US Air. Well departure flight is still $354, so I think I'll book the outbound and keep watching the return flight $. Or maybe book US Air's $79 flight home.

I hate this game!

Airtran has a $10 code on facebook today in honor of 10/10/10. YOu have to get the code today though.

When AirTran first loads fares, they all seem to start out over $300. After a few days the fares come down.

I agree. I have seen this several times. I bet they go down on Tues or maybe next Tues.

Id be in heaven to have an airport an hour away with low fares. I live in central Ill so my choices are Bloomington Ill. with Airtran fares being any where from 145 for early May to late May being 355 each way!!!!!!

I hope they come down!! That airport is only an hour away and is so convenient, plus free parking.

My other choices are St Louis, 2.5 hr drive (still 145 each way and pay for bags) with Airtran, or Indianapolis has a great deal which I hope holds our for only 83 on SW. Unheard of for us, but Indy entails a 3 hr drive (more gas and parking) and leave an extra hour for the time change. What a pain, but what a fare!!!

Lets hope Bloomington comes down!!!! otherwise we may drive!!!

I usually fly from Bloomington, too. Since the late May dates just opened, give it a few days until AirTran loads their normal, everyday low prices!

I sure hope they do, but dont you think that this years prices that they just posted are still alot higher than last years. If memory serves me right (hahahaha) they standard fare was around 100 to 120 with sales of 89 to 109.

Do you think SW buying Airtran is going to raise our prices?

BMI is just so darn easy to use!! So come on sale prices!!! I dont want to drive but will if air is going to be high.(at least you dont have to rent a car)

I will keep checking back daily, is Tues the day they put out sales/new fares?

I already got an e-mail for this week's sales...good through Tuesday for travel through Jan. 26. The $145 + tax fares for the non-stops to Orlando in spring 2011 are the highest I have seen in a few years. My one-way fare in April 2010 was $74 + tax!

I'm guessing that the other airport is Lehigh Valley? We were going to fly out of there too, since it's slightly closer for us than Philly. But it was significantly higher. Both AT flights, but about a $150 price difference per leg, per ticket.

I just checked Airtrans sale prices for travel thru Jan 26th and they were
79 to 99. That sounds about right from what I remember, but that is also traveling in Jan. what I would call off season.

Im hoping for a sale of around 100each way/pp for this late May,or SW with free bags may come into the picture,as well as driving,:headache:ughh, come on air fare sales!!!

Yep, LVI. Don't know if you saw my last post, but the outbound fare for 5/13 was at $63 today! So I guess you have to keep checking. I booked the outbound, but the return flight was still $364, so I'll be waiting on that one. So go check, maybe yours came down already too.....

Unfortunately I already booked through Philly now. SWA down, but AT back, at $79, which isn't bad at all. Just would have preferred flying out of LVI because of parking issues, and the convenience. We're only about a month out now though, and the Philly based tickets have skyrocketed now too. I guess I'm just going to have to be happy with what we have and not stress about lost opportunities.

Speaking of LVI, have you given thought to Allegiant that flies out of there? I haven't used them myself because of the way their schedule conflicts with out travel times, I was really just curious about them as a carrier itself. I don't see too much talk about them around here, which can either be a good OR bad thing lol

I know what you mean, it really bothers me to pay more for something when it's now cheaper....so good for you.....let it go and he happy! Well I just book our flight home, the price went down to $97, good enough for me. And I've been reading on here that they will give you a credit for the difference if the price goes down....not quite sure how to do that and I can't find that policy anywhere on their sight. But still total we are paying $200 less then we did this year plus it's out of LVI instead of Philly,YEAH!

I was looking at Alligent, but they lost their chance, they're still only booking thru 3/8. I can't wait any longer, and the AT prices are too good to pass up!
