We just returned from Disney World and have begun preliminary planning of our trip for next year. I used the Priceless code and the Entertainment $20 off code and got a quote over $400 for two weeks for a Pontiac G6! :earseek: Talk about sticker shock! We just rented a Pontiac G6 from National for two weeks for a grand total of $263.15. Please tell me that these rates will go down after the holidays!

Ever since the website changed, the rates have been horrible with National. I've yet to book my car for my Feb. trip. The base rate has been over $200 a week for an intermediate and just recently dropped to $157 (total $229 for 8 days), which is still very high. I fear the great prices we use to get may be a thing of the past. I guess they figured they would spoil us with EA over the past couple of years, now we will use them no matter what the price. I'm still hoping, with only 6 weeks to go for my next trip.

They will go down after the holidays, LOL!

Patience.

I used EA 12 times in 2005. I never paid more then $15. - $16. a day, one trip it was $14. a day. I had made all the ressies early this year. There were weeks when the price would go down 2 - 3 times.
Now for 2006 :scared:
I have rentals for the coming year, they are twice as much as last year. I really thought that when DME got off the ground, the rentals would stay low, but they got higher.
We'll wait and see what happens after the New Year.

When we returned the rental car last week, the girl at the counter told my DH that rates would start going down the week after Christmas. I wonder how much they will go down though? :confused3

DebbieB~ I'm not exactly sure of our dates for next December yet. It will either be the last week of November and the first week of December or the first two weeks of December.

I have an emerald reserve ressie for 2006...the rates had dropped a little bit yesterday compared with a couple of weeks ago.
But a question - those of you who rebook when lower rates come up, do have to cancel your existing ressie before the system will accept one for the same days?

No the new website lets you see and modify before you cancel(it gives you an opt out window-keep org res or accep new one...Deal or No-Deal). But you could always do it the old way. You have orig res., you make a new res., and then cancel origional higher reservation. :smooth:

Kewl.... :)

I always book my National car through priceline (well, I go to ebates.com first, so then I get an additional 3% back). For our Jan. trip we have a full sized car for $14 a day.

snowbunny, my rates dropped yesterday too for my Jan. trip, although it wasn't as big of a drop as I was hoping for. Maybe it'll go down even more after Christmas or New Years. At least I'll keep my fingers crossed. I'm now at $105 for a 4-day rental.

MariDisney, that's a fantastic rate that you have through Priceline! Are you able to get that by naming your own price? If so, is there a way you can choose National for your rental agency? I've used Priceline for hotels, but never a rental car. It sounds like something I should look at for this upcoming trip. Is National their "usual" partner when you name your own price?

Yes, I named my own price. Every time I name my own price for MCO I get National, so I feel very comfortable doing it. I actually named $12 for an economy size car and then there was an option to upgrade to full size for $2 a day. It has unlimited mileage, but taxes, etc. were extra. For 8 full days (pick up 9:00 am drop off 7:00 pm) I paid $161 total. I will also get 3% back in a rebate from ebates.com.

For anyone looking for a rental car, I would recommend Eagle Rent-a-car. They are a local rental company in Orlando, and have a few locations. We used the location near the airport, and they picked us up and dropped us off for free. Since they're not at the airport, they were MUCH less expensive. Now since they're not a local company, we were VERY nervous that we would get like, a crank start car, but we didn't have much of a choice because at the time, I was under 21 and they were one of 2 companies that would rent to me.

They were AWESOME!!! I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend them. It was $92 (plus under 25 fees, but that probably wouldn't apply to alot of you guys) for a week for a compact. There were NO linesto get the car, and it only took about an hour from the airport to (get the car, then to) our hotel. We had a little red car and it was really nice, brand new 2005 something-or-other but it got great mileage. All we needed to show was a drivers license, credit card, and proof of insurence (we didn't buy theirs). And if you don't have a credit card, they accept cash as well.

I know it's nerve wracking to try local companies, but our experience with them was nothing but positive.

I would expect the prices to go down. I had a reservation for Nov 26 to Dec 2 this year (which I ended up canceling because I did not go), it was around $120 when I booked it in Feb.
