Hi! We are seriously considering becoming dog owners again. DH and I had 2 American Eskimos for 10 years, and they have been gone for over 5 years. We never planned on getting another dog, but now the kids are getting older and I can't imagine them never having a dog. The youngest has been asking for a dog since she could talk.

I have done the research and we are strongly leaning toward a Papillon. I was hoping to hear real life experiences from Papillon owners to be sure that this is the dog for us. Thanks so much!!!

Our papillion just turned 14 & he is great. He has gotten harder of hearing lately, but other than that no issues. He is great with kids and loves to just hang out with us. I'm not sure of the ages of your kids, but paps are tiny and fairly delicate, so if your kids are younger or used to be rough with the larger dogs a pap may not be the best choice.

Thanks! Being good with the kids is the #1 requirement. My 7 and 8 year old are rather indifferent to dogs in general and my 8 year old really dislikes big dogs. The baby (she will be 3 next week) is the true dog lover and I am sure this will become "her dog". She is used to my moms chihuahua, so I think she will be gentle.

We have a Papillon, Lily, who is 7 years old. She is AMAZING. So smart and sweet. Very good with the kids and she was potty trained within 2 days. You can't go wrong in my opinion. We have 3 dogs and she is the sweetest of them all.

Thank you. I am going to take a look at one this weekend that was just born Feb 1!

I had a papillon for 13 years and he was the best friend I've ever had. I haven't gotten a new one because we have kids now and they really aren't family dogs but someday I will. These animals a fiercely loyal to one person, maybe 2 but are more prissy than playful, devoted, full of love and content to just be with their human, not a lap dog but the sort who is always beside you. My dog once tried to defend me against a Lab that could have eaten him with one bite, luckily the dog that came after me was held back by a fence but my little dog was completely willing to defend me to the death... you don't see that kind of thing every day. I was heartbroken when he died back in 2006, still am... he was the best:love:

If you get one please post pictures, my heart still skips a beat when I see one.

PS- when I say they aren't family dogs I am comparing them to Collies.
