One more thing to keep in mind is the professional footbal players get this done all the time and go back to playing. Sometimes within weeks. When you hear that the go the knee "cleaned out" miniscus surgery is what they are talking about. Have the surgeon give you some picutures of the tear before removal.

My first surgery was at the hospital where my wife worked and since they did a spinal they let me watch on the tv monitor for a while before I got sedated. It was pretty cool.

The blood clot death is extremely rare and could happen with any surgery so don't worry about it if you can help it.

Yes rare. My husband had surgery on his left knee no problem and was up and about in a few days.

A couple of years later, he had it on his right knee, came home, and in the morning was feeling sick and weak. Took him to the hospital as it was a weekend and he had a pulminary embolism and clots in his lungs. It was a nightmare.

All that being said, he was the 1 in .01% that this happened to. It was just happened. I don't know if there was something we did, or could have done, or the doctor did or didn't do, it just happened. He is fine now and back to normal, thank God.

Most people go through it just fine, as he did the first time. Just make sure someone can watch you at home after the surgery, at least for the night.

ETA: BTW, I just wanted to add, that blood clots can occur with ANY surgery that you do, it is the risk of having surgery. I will tell you, that the first time he went through the repair he was walking in 3 days, had PT for like 3 weeks and was fully functioning on his knee within weeks. I hope I didn't scare you, I was just sharing. Mainly, it's important not to be alone after any surgery. Good luck, OP, you can do it!
