Please tell me about the passports at Epcot

What's a Duffy Bear?

I notice that nobody has answered your question.

Duffy is a Disney bear that has a hidden Mickey on his face. He was first introduced years ago at WDW as "My first Disney bear" but didn't do well, so he was brought over to Japan where he just EXPLODED with popularity.

Just last year, the WDW brought him back to Epcot and gave him a whole back story of him traveling around the world with Mickey. His new story is that Minnie made this bear to keep Mickey company.

I think he's become a mascot of World Showcase because he's known for traveling around the world. Each pavilion now each has a special outfit that you can dress him up in. And just recently, Disney has put up little spots around WS where you can place your Duffy bear and take pictures of it.

What PP referred to earlier is that instead of the paper masks, you now get a paper Duffy bear to colour on and decorate, just like with the old masks they had. They also have special Duffy stamps for these now.

I'm not sure why it would become a bad thing though. I saw kids that still loved colouring their Duffys

Yeah, what's up with that, is it really just for kids? That sounds like so much Fun! I LOVE The World Showcase, it's my favorite place in WDW! I'm 30 and I wanna do the passports! haha
Oh well, I guess I'll just stick to collecting drinks from around the world. ;)
It should be for everybody tho, lol

:)

It's definitely NOT just for kids. On my last trip, we were in Epcot for DBF's birthday, so I created him a passport and brought it to all the CMs where they wished him a happy birthday in their own languages! It was wonderful.

I definitely noticed that they didn't pay as much attention to me as they did the kids though, which was kind of a let down.

I ended up printing off the one that someone here on disboards has done. It's really gorgeous and it cost me the ink and cardstock which I already had. So, basically... nothing! :cool1:

This way, I got two of them and we paid nothing to do them and then the kids can still have passports to sign.

Screw it. I'm gonna go to Mousegear and get one anyway. It'll be a fun way to talk to everyone in each country!

My husband and I did the passports before we even had kids!

My kids loved doing this. They love reading what the CM writes in their native language. They both still have their passports and have brought them into school for "show and tell". They were 6 and 8 at the time. They want to do it again this trip too! It is a nice keepsake. There is also something in AK that they do with a booklet and going around to different spots and getting stamps. My kids did this and loved it as well. I forget the name of it but I'm sure someone here would know. Your kids are great ages for that as well and the one in AK revolves around animals of course!

Thanks for the response. I did look into the Duffy Bear and found all the background info and photos.

My kids loved doing the masks and always look forward to it- i.e coloring them in each country and planning what words they want to ask cast members to write in their language on the back. I personally like the symbols that my kids got in each country that got attached to their mask. It seems like with the bear we won't get that.

We'll be there in few days and find out for ourselves, but I'm thinking Duffy will appeal to my daughter and not to my son and they both won't be as entertained as they have been in past years with the masks.
