Please tell me about solo trips

Reading about all of your solo trips has made me completely excited to have my own. This October, I'm going to do it! I can't wait to have a different and new sort of WDW experience...plus I'll get to do F&W and MNSSHP for the first time!

I was looking for justification to stay in a deluxe resort, and pygoplites, now that you've brought up personal safety, I think I may be convinced! If I can swing it, I'd love to do 2 nights at the YC (where we usually stay) and 2 nights at the Poly or GF...since I live in Manhattan where I have no private outdoor space, having a balcony really makes a vacation for me. And I've wanted to stay at a monorail resort for the past twenty-five years or so...it's about time I did, right?

"Justification" is highly overrated, I've discovered. When it comes to my WDW vacation splurges, I've found that getting in touch with my inner 3-year-old is much more fun (Me WANT! Me GET!!!!).

I think the backstage tours are a great way to experience the parks as an independent traveler. You are usually in a small group that gets to see things that 99% of the vistors never experience or realize.

You can also spend more time talking with Cast Members, particularly in World Showcase where there are many foreign exchange students. Cast Members usually light up when someone actually takes an interest in them and what they're doing, instead of viewing them as "the workers".

It's great that you're planning a solo trip for October! The Food and Wine Festival is one of my favorite times to visit WDW, and I usually go there solo. I am rarely alone, though, because I meet up with DIS friends or with local Off Kilter fans that I've gotten to know.
