PLEASE SHARE -What is it like to resort park now?

Hmm...so we've established they validate parking for day guests at Aulani, or they have to pay.

Now we're learning they do the same at Disneyland

But WDW is claiming they are implementing the parking fee in part by staying in line with their HI and CA resorts...... :confused3

This is what I’m thinking too. To think someone could park all day for free just doesn’t seem right. I’m expecting this same guideline will be implemented esp at the delux resorts

If you dont say "yes".....i have a car...you wont get a window pass......no window pass........when someone checks the cars in the parking lot late a night.......and your car doesn't have a pass.......you car will get towed.......thats how they know.........you will have to go call the front desk to find your car.....they have a record that you told them no.....i dont have a car...... you now have to pay for parking fees.....AND park to get your car from impound because it was towed....not cheap

now....lets say you do have a pass...and you did pay for parking....but you were an idiot.....or made a mistake and did not leave your parking pass on the dash.....and you car gets towed. it is still on you for not following directions. getting a towed car out of impound is not usually cheap.

people are really over thinking this parking fee thing.
Though I don't disagree with your premise that this is is how it "should" work, I also believe it is highly unlikely that this is how it "will" work. It would consume a good portion of any assumed revenues from parking, if Disney now has to employ tow trucks to haul offenders away. They wouldn't shoot themselves in the foot like that. If their primary goal is revenue...why would they now have to pay for tow services at every resort. I guess we'll just have to wait and see how this plays out.

I'm going to be massively shocked if Disney takes any significant steps to change their current process in any way. Or gets this right 100% of the time. Even for stays booked after 3/21.
They will start with seeing who is arriving via ME, and who isn't. MDE tells them that.
Folks who arrive via ME and rent a car later may well fall through the cracks. Would not surprise me one bit, would it any of you?
That leaves those who's MDE don't show they are arriving via ME. They are going to assume that they are arriving via car that is going to be parked on property. And most of those guests probably are arriving via a car they are parking on property. I would not be one bit surprised to see them automatically add parking to all of these guests, would any of you?
But there will be those like us, who use car services, Uber, Yak, etc. These guests may well have to verbally tell Disney not to charge them for parking. This is actually what I anticipate I will need to do during our April stay, even though we booked before 3/21

ETA - I don't believe there will be any action or changes done in the parking lots, at the security gates to enter or exit the resorts either. I stand to be wrong but that's what I think is going to happen

I didn't think of that until I read your previous post this morning, but we kind of fall into that category too this time. We're doing our first Universal split, so not doing DME from the airport for the first time, but Ubering over a few days into the trip. I will definitely be checking my charges!

If people want their cars back, don't they pay the tow fees? Heck, I wouldn't be surprised If Disney got a kickback.

There are sooooooo many people who take town-cars, uber, etc. to the resort rather than ME. I sure hope they don't start putting the charge on anyone who doesn't take ME, that would be incredibly stupid.

Of course it would be. Just like a security check that occurs during the time a guests asked to have a nap
Do you really think that would stop them from doing it?
All I said was it wouldn't surprise me if the did

I'm not debating you. I'm saying it would be incredibly stupid.

Then there's the people (like we've done in the past)who rent a car for only one night and have a week stay. How does this work?
My current guess is these guest will fall through the cracks. Unless the guest fesses up and tells Disney they had a car for 1 night.

If I'm wrong and they are using something that checks the MB as you scan in the gates, which would make more sense, then they'll be able to see that 1 day you entered the gate using your MB and can charge you that way. But I'm going to be really surprised to see them do that, is what I'm saying.

Right- I mean they scan our magic bands even when we are staying off site and go for dinner. They know our names and see our reservation. We started putting our magic bands on because it was easier than pulling out a driver license. So they could go by that scan but I agree that's asking a lot from their computer system!

But you will have a rental car receipt after you turn in your rental.

We won't be affected until our 2019 trip, we booked Board Walk last Nov for this Oct., but this point is interesting. We use DME for our luggage only, actually got our tags just today, we skip the bus and rent a car. So they'll think we're on the bus but I'll be pulling up to Board Walk in a rental. Again, just curious, we're OK for Oct and since we use rented DVC points I assume we'll be exempt for the immediate future as well.

Guests can use DME for luggage only? If true, this would help me tremendously! I was going to have to rent a full size van for 7 or us and all our luggage, but if we can use DME for the luggage, I would only need a full size SUV or minivan.

Technically by the rules? Grey area.
Is there anything that stops it? No
Bags are taken off the airplane and carted off to Disney independent of you getting on ME
We have done it several times ourselves.

Technically, no, you’re not supposed to do that. But there’s nothing stopping you from doing so.

Yep, Disney’s “official” stance is that someone has to ride the bus. But they don’t actually check, though, so people do whatever they want.
Is this policy in writing anywhere? I had this same question for this trip and I could not find any written policy anywhere regarding this.

I don’t think it’s written anywhere (and even some of the stuff written on the website is wrong anyway), but they wouldn’t ask for flight info and whether you need a one-way or round trip transfer if they didn’t intend for you to ride the bus. They’d start by asking whether or not you even plan to ride and then get the details if you do. Doing a quick Google search, every Disney planning site that I could find (including Touring Plans) indicates that DME is not intended to be used as a luggage transfer service.

There’s more discussion on the topic in the thread linked a few posts up.

But the bottom line is that as of right now, nothing happens if you don’t get on the bus. And as long as the number of people using DME as a luggage transfer service remains small, I doubt they’ll do anything about it. But if the number grows...who knows? It could turn into another one of those “why we can’t have nice things” situations.
