They were listening to the radio and talking about the line that Bono sings that says "Thank God it's them instead of you" or something along those lines. I had never heard of that before and I guess never paid attention to the lyrics. But it's true. He really does say that. That's really kind of awful.

I know the people who say stuff like that really believe it is for a blessing God has bestowed upon them. They mean well. In general, anyway. Bono I don't know about.

Well, since Geldof wrote it, it's really his motivation you'd have to question, isn't it?

I also think it's a bit of an ironical line. But that's me of course, YMMV.
