To make a long story short: DH thinks that if you mix flour and HOT water together, it can explode. I don't see how this can happen, and if it were really a kitchen hazard, I would've heard of it by now. He said it happened to his sister, and that you should always use cold water if you're going to add water to flour.

Have ANY of you ever heard this before???? I told DH I was going to ask this question on the DIS boards :p

Dan just beat me to it with posting that link... if it were true with hot water, my gravy could have exploded many times

Thanks Dan!

Hmmm... I wonder if DH's sister was heating up flour and hot water over a stove....???

I wasn't mixing it over a stove tonight though. We have a spring water cooler in our kitchen and it has an "instant hot" tap. I poured flour into a Pyrex measuring cup and then added hot water, and stirred. When DH saw me do this, that's when he told me it could explode.
