Please Set My Mind At Ease About Pop!

We're DVC members and have never stayed at a value. I'm going this week for the Disney half marathon and 5 and 10ks. My main concern, silly though it might sound, is about the beds. Because I'll have to get up so early, I really need to get to sleep quickly and easily in the evening. And I don't like hard mattresses-- they really hurt my back.

Are the beds REALLY hard at Pop? I'm not worried about the noise level or anything else interfering with getting to sleep--I requested a top floor -- but I'm picturing sleepless nights because of hard beds. Please set my mind at ease or give it to me straight and I'll switch my last two nights to a moderate or deluxe so I can get some sleep before the Half!

I had no trouble with the beds at Pop.

The beds are double beds so if you like a lot of room you may want to change for that reason

It's been awhile since I've been to Pop, but the beds didn't bother me at all. They weren't AKL quality, but they were okay. For reference, I use a Sleep Number at home, so I am kind of picky about beds.

It's just me so I'm not worried at all about space. A few years ago I had hip pain the first few nights at POFQ, until I adjusted to the bed. I won't have time to adjust, this is a short trip. And I'll have enough hip pain from running, so I don't need any from the bed lol.

We had no problem with the beds at POP. But, then again, we are always so tired at the end of the night, we could sleep on a sidewalk on Main Street I'm fairly sure. :goodvibes

I was at POP in September. I had no problem with the bed. I thought it felt similar to the pillow top mattresses of higher end hotels. Maybe that is where people are getting confused.

We've never had a problem with the beds at Pop Century either BUT - I think the most important thing to do in the OP's situation is to get the entire "hard bed" idea out of their mind and that will be difficult to do. Even if that seed is in there somewhere, and the OP has a hard time falling asleep right away, the beds will be blamed.

However, I can also say that I've stayed in just about all the Disney resorts and never had a problem with any of the beds but someone somewhere will say "X resort has the hardest beds EVER".

Asking about bed hardness is the same as asking about the proper temperature to cook a steak - no two people will ever agree and you won't know until you've experienced it yourself.

This actually does set my mind at ease. I've read a few old threads about "hard beds" at various places and Pop was one of them. If everyone who answered had said, "Yes, the beds are hard!" I would have considered switching for the night before the Half. Since they didn't, I'm hoping I'll be fine. I just don't want the beds to be so rock hard-- I've stayed in some hotels with those beds! -- that you couldn't help but notice.

I'm very much "princess and the pea" when it comes to beds, but I found the Pop bed to be very comfy. And I know you know I'm a bit complainy and I was getting sick while we were at Pop, so if it had been uncomfortable I would have noticed! :) I'm kind of middle of the road when it comes to beds; I don't want something so squishy my rear leaves a dent for half the day, but I dislike rock hard mattresses, too. The pirate room beds at CBR are HARD (they are also about 2" thick, eek), but Pop's mattress was nice.

If you were okay, Molly-- sick and all! I should be okay. As long as it isn't rock hard! I'll stop worrying about this now! Wish you were running this time-- I'd love to meet you.

I am no princess (just highly arthritic) but if a bed is too hard or even firm I'm up all night and in pain in most joints the next day. Am a POP veteran and yes at the beginning the beds were SUPER DUPER FIRM aka hard as rocks. I noticed the beds have consistently gotten better over time with renos. This and last trip (total of 20 nights) they were very comfortable. They did have a "pillow top" of sorts and I slept very well. But again bed comfort is only relative to the sleeper.

Good luck in your races :cheer2:

So glad to hear this! I'm feeling much more comfortable about the sleeping thing now. My daughter and I are considering a split trip in August at Pop and Boardwalk, so this is kind of a test case for me. We just don't have enough DVC points!

I thought the beds at POP were fine, my husband thought the beds at wilderness lodge were horrid and he much preferred the beds at POP, me two Advil liquid gels and I could sleep on the floor, pop beds are fine.

Just got back today from the Princess half marathon and I really liked Pop! The beds were fine and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. Kinda always wanted to try it and am glad I did!

That was exactly our experience, too. We'd stayed at all the mods, and most of the deluxe resorts, and if was hesitant to try a value. We really liked it and would not hesitate to stay there again. We spend very little time in our room anyway... Glad you liked it! :goodvibes

Glad you enjoyed it. I am hoping for a stay in April 2015. It is DH's favorite value hotel.

We stayed at Pop in November and the beds were comfortable. Actually the beds last year at BC I thought were terribly hard and uncomfortable but the beds at Pop were fine.

I stayed at the POP Dec. 2012 and the beds were so hard I asked for the egg crate foam. They brought me a piece that did not cover the whole bed, but I had the bed to myself so it was ok. The bed did not have the pillow top that some have mentioned. Maybe the pillow top is something new.

If it helps, I tossed & turned all 5 nights at ASMo in 2012 and was super concerned about the beds at POP last October. I won't go so far as to say I found the bed "comfortable", but I had no problem sleeping at POP. In fact, one night we ended up sleeping 12 hours and only woke because I set the alarm "just in case" the night before! I do know it was more Disney exhaustion (and not comfort), but after the miserable sleep I got at ASMo, I certainly won't complain about the beds at POP.

I do agree with PP who said they aren't "AKL comfortable" (or Poly comfortable) - I LOVED the beds at both of those resorts.
