Please sense check this for me

My travel agent has come back saying that we need to make 2 reservations for our trip 9/23 - 10/7 in order to get free dining, one 9/23 - 10/2 and the other to finish our holiday. The disney website is currently allowing me to book fee dining for my whole stay and I'm sure I've read on here you only need to have your check in date during the dining period to qualify.

Please can someone tell me which is right, Disney is showing $600 cheaper than the TA's new cheaper quote.

Free dining starts with your check in date, so your travel agent is wrong. You only need one reservation.

It probably has something to do with availability when the TA checked and they had to do two separate reservations to get free dining the whole time. Disney releases certain rooms for certain lengths of stay, so it's very possible it was not available for 14 consecutive nights when she checked. The $600 is that extra set of tickets you would have to buy with two separate reservations. The max stay under the offer is 14 nights, so if you see it GRAB IT! If you still want to work with the TA, you can always transfer the reservation. IMHO, I wouldn't let this slip by. That's a long length-of-stay and chances are you won't see 14 consecutive days much longer.

Disney Free Dining has always been that if you booked your start day during Free Dining, maximum of 14 nights, your Free Dining can continue past the end date of the FD offer. The TA might be inexperienced and confused, maybe because many offers out there, such as room discount and Bounce Back, are for specific begin-and-end dates. I would agree with PP that the TA is wrong.

I read on one of the other boards that this is no longer the case, new policy. Ther fd promo is only good for the published dates. Sorry.

TA is currently checking for me but if Disney is allowing me to do it shouldn't he be able to? or does Disney have different rules for booking direct and via a TA?

Nothing's changed. For example, if you arrived on the last day, December 21st, and you stayed for a minimum of 3 nights, you could get free dining. The DisneyFoodBlog reported this:

Travel Dates​

Free Dining is being offered to guests ARRIVING during the dates listed below. A minimum stay of 3 nights is required and your package may not be booked for longer than 14 nights.

August 28 – October 2, 2015
October 25 – October 31, 2015
November 8 – November 19, 2015
December 15 – December 21, 2015
