Okay, I've made the decision to hold out and hope a 2br timeshare close to wdw opens up on getravelop or skyauction for the week of 12/16-23 (not the holiday week). but, of course, it might not. so it's been suggested to me that i book a back-up location that can be canceled, preferably with less than a week's notice.

whew! do those places exist? will they be nice to stay in if my timeshare dreams fall through? WHERE would you recommend???

Thanks for your help!!

Since I was probably the one that recommended the back up ressie, I feel like I should weigh in here... :) I agree with Spicey to consider Hotelkingdom, but read their terms carefully as I think they are different with different hotels/condos. Your dates appear to be available at Cypress Pointe for a 2 bdrm timeshare unit for $93.22 per night. I understand about waiting for a good deal via Skyauction or Getravelop (we actually use AFVC for the military which appears to be a sister site). It's hard to pay as much for 3 nights of accomodation as we can get for a full week via AFVC...we have been totally spoiled over the last 3-4 years! But the better timeshares don't seem to be listed at all anymore, not even during the slower weeks. :(

there's a 1br at VV@P for my week right now, but it's the partial kitchen, not the full, so it wouldn't have the washer/dryer, right? it's just so handy to put a load in and then go to bed and not have to wait up for it to be done. ugh! should i take it anyway, and have someplace, or hold on for awhile! ugh! i hate this kind of pressure.

i haven't looked at hotelkingdom--i thought you were locked in, like you would be if you bought a skyauction. i didn't know you could cancel--i'l check all the restrictions carefully before making my back-up ressie. thanks for the tip about the choice hotel chains, too. -dj

Yay!! i couldn't stand the wait and a 1BR w full kitchen actually came up on getravelop for my exact date and i grabbed it! it means a sofabed for 2 kids, but at least it's a done deal!!! i'm dancing---we're going to disney!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hooray, dj2!! :woohoo: If it'd been me, I would have done the same thing. Glad the full kitchen unit came up for you. I guess it really pays to keep a close watch on that website. Now...would you mind posting about your experience there, if you remember, that is...? The VV@P seems to be the best thing coming up on AFVC, and many here have had good reports about it. Anyway, congrats on your great deal!! :cool1:

well, if you forgive my rambling, i can fill you in a little right now! i can tell you that my middle DD (then 12) and i loved it last year. we stayed there in jan 2005, in a 1BR, full kitchen. in fact, i think you (Local_Girl) and i were talking on at least one thread back then, too. (well, really, spiceycat, too.) DD liked watching the bedroom tv from the jacuzzi, and she loved the big tv in the living room. i loved how close it was to wdw--almost like being on property in terms of travel time. i also loved the washer/dryer. we both liked that the bathroom had two sinks - one for each of us. the kitchen was great--the only thing that was not like home was the pots were definately NOT non-stick. everything was spacious and seemed clean. we didn't really use any of the resort besides the apartment, so i can't comment on that. this time around, it'll be me and all three dd's, two of whom will have to share a sofabed. i'm hoping that goes well. i guess it'll feel a bit less spacious, but certainly not as cramped as a hotel room, or anything we could afford on-site. i know i toyed with waiting for a 2br somewhere, but it's just that it seemed to be for me a known quantity in an unknown time slot (not sure if the week before christmas, although disney says value season, will really be available), and at $43/night total after taxes, it's about the same price as a $38/night hotel. can't beat that!

p.s. - little known fact about VV@P--at least as of last year, anyone can park in the spaces under the building. often when the lot was getting full, there were still a few spots under the building, probably because most don't realize that anyone can park there.
