Our family is pretty mild when it comes to thrill rides. DS (12) actually has anxiety about anything that might have drops.

We have avoided Kali River Rapids, Rock 'n Roller Coaster, Splash Mountain and Tower of Terror (naturally -- it is ALL ABOUT the drops). We've done Space Mountain and Everest, but the kids seemed to think they were "too much". We managed to "turn the corner" on BTMRR last trip, and it was a highlight.

So - relative to, say, BTMRR - how are the drops in Kali River and RnR?

Thanks,

Tracie

Kali river rapids is pretty mild. It has one drop but its not that big. My 3 year old went on a couple weeks ago and he loved it. Good luck.

Kali is a very short ride. There's are drops but they aren't very steep and you're too busy getting soaked to the bone to really notice it. RnR isn't droppy (nice word!) but it is loopy so your kids may or may not be into that.

RnR doesn't really drop but it's really fast, in the dark and goes upside down. It's more intense than BTMRR though. Once you've done Everest and RnR then BTMRR seems kind of slow (although we all still love it but only riding at night which makes it seem faster).

Kali river rapids is so mild our family deemed it "boring" and we probably won't do it in the future (unless we're really hot and need a refreshing soak!).

If your son doesn't like drops, he probably won't like RnR, since there are loops and a corkscrew. It's not the same feeling as a drop, but if they think Everest is too much, I think RnR would definitely be too much. Maybe you could ride it first and see what you think they would think about it?

I would rate the drops in Kali as no worse than Pirates of the carribean. The possiblity of spinning is the only thing that makes me think twice if I have just eaten

If we're talking ALL ABOUT the drops, RnR is fine. As others said before it is dark, it goes upside down, and it's fast. But, if it's all about the drops there aren't any. My husband DOES NOT like drops. He wont go on ToT, Splash Mountain, Everest, etc. but he will go on RnR since you don't get that "dropping" sensation at all.

The only thing that scared my 6 yr old was the heat he felt from Kali River Rapids. The drops aren't bad. He just wasn't expecting the heat he felt from the fire part. LOL

i agree that rock and roller coaster should be ok since it has no drops. we went on it for the first time this past april and it quickly became my favorite ride. i was scared to death while watching the take off but couldn't wait to get back on it. will be the first ride i go to next time as well. won't do tower so i can't speak for it but my son loved it and said i would also but i wasn't buying into it. :)

No one has really commented on Splash Mountain. Personally, I don't find the 'drops' in splash mountain feel like anything other than a big slide. The only exception is the last drop, but even then, it's just that it's longer. You do NOT get that stomach dropping queasy feeling on Splash Mountain.

Plus, I bet your kids would LOVE the characters.

As far as drops go, it goes without saying at Tower of Terror. But, I just wanted to say...I absolutely hate roller coasters. So for years and years, every time my husband and three kids went on ToT, I would spend an hour walking through the shops, alone.

Two years ago, my kids begged, pleaded and harrassed me enough that I finally said 'yes' to going on ToT with them. I decided that it wouldn't literally kill me, so I would do it ONE time, for them.

I have to say, I absolutelly loved it and am sorry that I missed out on all the fun all those years! It's one of my favorites now.

8 days!:yay:

On a drop scale of 1-10, 1 being like kiddie roller coaster in toontown and 10 being pretty much free fall at 500 feet, I would rank the big drops for your query as follows:

BTMRR: 3 (no real big drops)
Kali River: 2 (one mild, 20 foot-ish drop)
RnRR: 5 (there aren't alot of big drops, just fast turns and loops)
Splash: 4 (one 50 ft drop)
Tower of Terror: 6 (multiple free-fall like drops, but none are too long- maybe 30 feet at a time.)

For your reference, I'd rate Everest's biggest drop as a 5.

No one has really commented on Splash Mountain. Personally, I don't find the 'drops' in splash mountain feel like anything other than a big slide.

I get that stomach dropping queasy feeling on Splash. The little dips don't bother me, but I'm so not a fan of the big hill. I actually mind the ToT drops less than the Splash hill, but I think I'm in the minority there.

As far as ride intensity goes, Kali is pretty mild, IMO. My kids went on when they were 2-1/2 yrs old, so I think your family would be fine. Like others have said, Splash is mostly mild but the last drop can be a doozy, LOL! Again though, my kids all did Splash at 3 yrs old so it can't be too, too, bad. TOT is a totally different kind of drop feeling than you feel on a roller coaster. My stomach actually handles TOT better than many drops from coasters, but I'm sure everyone is different. RNR is much more intense than the other three. It is FAST, in the dark, and goes upside down. I loved this one, but it is definitely more intense than the other three, even though there are no big drops.

The one I CAN'T handle at all is EE! That one totally messes with my equilibrium!

For DS it isn't just the drops, though. He's just plain scared of stuff. On some things - even if he's done them before and liked them (Test Track, for example) - he'll get really anxious and worried about riding it. For those things, we practically MAKE him go because we know he's liked it before, he'll enjoy it again.

So I know RNR is out for him, but DD (especially since it isn't droppy) and DH might enjoy riding it with me. We've decided that he can take the "chicken exit" and meet us where the ride lets out. What do you think?

Thanks for the info on KAli - that will help tremendously, since he enjoys POTC.

Personally, I probably can relate to your DS. Test Track and Big Thunder give me anxiety but I've been on them and know I can handle them. That said, it doesn't mean I always want to be on them. But, if my kids want me to go on with them, I will and be okay.
So, you kind of get my tolerance here. Kali River was fine with me. There's things going on to see and your getting wet. (Still, more a POTC or HM type).
However, don't anyone EVER try and make me do Rockin Roller Coaster! Loops - Forget it! Nor would I ever make a kid of mine. Why scare someone for that reason? If you're that nervous, you won't enjoy yourself, IMHO. However, I would encourage my kid to do Soarin' even if they had anxiety.
Just my 2 cents.;)

I'm with you!! The Splash Mountain drop gets me everytime. I don't do drops well at all. And, to totally discredit what I just said, ToT doesn't bother me at all and is one of my faves at WDW. Figure that out.

If you don't want to be soaked for the rest of the day, don't forget your ponchos. It's possible to do the ride without getting soaked, but at least some of the people in each craft will get absolutely soaked.

You could be describing my 12 yo perfectly! It is mostly the anxiety leading up to the ride, more than the ride itself. The first time we were there we didn't force him on anything, but this past summer, we told him that we were going to go on more rides. My criteria for him having to go was if it was a ride his 6yo brother could go on, and that the entire group wanted to ride, we would all be going. He got onto Kali, Splash Mountain, Star Tours, Dinosaur, Test Track (let him off with my dad at right at the boarding the 1st go round, but got him on it the 2nd go round and he LOVED it) and Barnstormer, all of which he had chickened out of the previous year. He was VERY anxious in line, but after each ride, he was pleased that he had gone on (with the exception of dinosaur, all the kids didn't care for it much). The only one I caved on was Thunder Mountain, since some of our party wasn't interested in going on anyway. Rides we didn't even try were RnR, ToT, Space Mtn and Everest - I have no interest in those ones anyway, just wanted to get him on some of the rides that I knew he would like.

I don't mind coasters (except for some of the mammoth things at other parks - heights bother me) but I can't stand the Tower of Terror. The idea of free fall is awful to me and it's a shame because I love the theming at ToT. Yes, I did it once and hated the falling.
