Please Put Epcot Out Of Its Misery!

I agree. That's where I spend most of my time while at Epcot, the World Showcase.

As far as not going if Soain was closed, I wouldn't cancel a trip because of it. I really like Soain but wouldn't cancel a trip over it.

When I say cancel, I simply mean postpone. Soarin is a big part of my enjoyment. If its going to be closed, I'll just wait it out. Disney isn't going anywhere.

I wish I could understand the love for World Showcase. I think it's lovely....a photographer's dream. But it's mostly a collection of gift shops and food stands/restaurants. I've caught a few of the performers along the way...but as much as I enjoy "looking" at it all, there really isn't much to "do."

I am of like mind. Maybe I am missing something. Since we have small kids we typically skip Epcot because of this.

I totally agree with the above comments. I loved the educational aspect of each of the rides. I would have loved to see Habit Heroes, and i think it would have been an improvement.
Other than the financial dilemma that Disney will or will not take responsibility for in updating or creating rides, some of the public today seem to get uptight as to where or how they want to be educated. We saw this happen with Habit Heroes, and may also be a reason for the closure of Wonders of Life. For all of the institutions pushing for higher learning and better success in education, there seems to be a continual dumbing down of the values necessary to provide for learning. It seems that some only want to be entertained, and that's it. We can see this through entertainment in all its forms, not just at Disney.
With that thought in mind, i believe there is only so much that Disney can do when creating new attractions...the creativity is already squashed by the thought of "who's gonna find fault with this attraction?" and "Do we want to spend x amount of dollars on something we may have to back out on?"
I don't mean to get all philosophical with this, it just seems that the generation we live in today makes it difficult to allow for the attractions we once had 10-20 years ago...especially where healthcare is concerned.
EPCOT does need some tweaking, just not sure how they will do it.

I agree completely. In fact I am surprise Disney had not used the Robinson family from the Disney movie Meet the Robinsons and that movies themes as a way to transform Epcot. I mean you have time travel, inventions, villians (maybe), moral lessons of technology gone wrong. Let is not dumb down Epcot anymore.

While I do think Epcot needs a bit of updating I don't think everything has to be about characters either.

I love Epcot. It ties for favourite park with MK. I am a wander around and study the details kind of person so it's perfect for me. However, I do really wish they'd update more of Future World. I want Journey into Imagination pavilion to return to it's former glory. I want Ellen updated, Captain Eo gone, and something in the Wonders of Life pavilion for everyday use again.

One can hope.

It is more the theme of the movie I meant to emphasize rather than the characters. Have you seen the movie? I think is one of the best films Disney has put out in recent years (recent being relative)

I agree. I just don't think every attraction benefits from having characters. The ride in Mexico, for example, hasn't been improved by the addition of Donald Duck.

It's funny you mentioned this... I was going to put this exact thought in my post, but didn't want it too wordy..LOL ...
"Meet the Robinsons" had the theme of Keep Moving Forward....the same thought that FW seemed to have had when it was first formed. I'm not saying bring the characters back, but a banner here or there with a character, or a phrase with an attraction that supports the idea of future inventing, or a consideration of what the future could be like would be good. :thumbsup2

Sorry, but I think your family misses a lot! My family loves Epcot, and not just the World Showcase.

You seem to forget that Soarin is a fairly recent (and huge) addition to Epcot. Spaceship Earth was recently redone, and Nemo was added to the Seas ride. Plus they are updating TestTrack (hence the singers). Do they need to do more? YES! But they haven't been ignoring Epcot. Far from it.

My kids loved Epcot, too - a lot if it reminds me of childrens' museums we've visited. Good for the elementary school crowd.

As for those ripping EO? That just seems wrong (even if it is accurate :-) ) - I enjoyed the 80s nostalgia and left wanting a perm. At least they've got their demographics worked out - lots of parents of school aged kids who love Epcot will enjoy Eo. My daughter thought it was a bit lame but I'm calling it a history lesson. :rolleyes1

Bring back Horizons. Bring back Body Wars. Bring back the Martin Short sex-ed video. :)

Seriously, though, Epcot is awesome.

I haven't read the whole post..but I miss the Parade that used to be in Epcot...made me tear up....I also miss the statue Lady...the random stilt walkers...the Italien Court show....the Juggler...seems a lot of street performers in Epcot just are not there anymore....

EP is our favorite park - sure, it could use an update in areas

(more countries and newer future world pavillions - buh bye, wonders of life)

but we like the "world's fair" feel to WS

and especially during F&W

Exactly this. The unique street entertainment is what brought EPCOT to life.

I agree with this too. We LOVE Epcot, with our without the street performers, but they added so much to the experience and we miss them. We only thought the parade was so-so, and it made everything so crowded, so I don't miss that as much, but I did enjoy it the couple of times we saw it.
