We have 3 Chihuahuas. All of them are very dear to me in their own way, but Beanie just got under my skin from the first time that I held her. She had been abandoned at a pet adoption day at PetsMart. They told us lots of things that turned out to be untrue about her health and how well screened that she had been before we took her home. They also ended up lying to us about how severe her heart murmur was when they did tell us that she was not 100% ok. But, that is a long saga all unto itself.

Beanie has pulmonic stenosis which causes a really bad heart murmur. They told us that due to her small size that most likely, they would not be able to do surgery to correct the problem and it would have been prohibitively expensive even if they could have. It was a hard thing to hear about this wonderful little dog, but we decided to spoil her rotten until she was gone.

We have worried about her barking too much, because somewhere along the way, barking too much made her pass out. Then, the passing out started to cause seizures if she was out for too long. Now, she is barely willing to move around and is unwilling to bark much at all. I think that she is in the early stages of heart failure. We have been told that there will not be much that they can do for her, so it's not really worth it to call the vet at this point. Tonight, I let the other dogs out to run and made a special point to pick her up, which she normally just loves, but tonight, she seems in pain. She yelped like I was hurting her really badly when I kissed the side of her head, which is one of her usual favorite things, because she usually likes to try to tag me on the mouth with a doggie kiss right after that. She is just pitiful.

I swore that I was not going to get too attached to her, once I found out about how bad her heart was. They told us that she had 2-3 years to live if we were lucky. Well, she is 3-1/2 and I am afraid that our luck has run out. I love that little dog, so much. It's killing me to see her in pain and to know there isn't a thing in the world that I can do or could have done to make her any better. I almost wish that she would just pass away in her sleep, so that I don't have to make the horrible decision to put her down. I am so worried that it's going to come to that.

Deuce is worried about her. They have been buddies since the day we first found her at PetsMart. It was the day after we returned home from Disney in late September of 2002. Deuce had stayed with a coworker and when we got him back from her, we took him to PetsMart to buy him a special goodie. We walked in and he pulled us to the right of the store, which was straight towards this beautiful, scared out of her mind, shaking like a leaf Chihuahua. Beanie stopped shaking when they let me hold her. It was the first time that she had been calm since she was dumped there. She picked me to be her human more than I picked her to be my dog. But, she and Deuce were good company for one another.

A little more than a year ago, we brought Perdita home. We knew that Beanie's health was worsening and we had to protect Deuce from mourning her loss so badly. Perdita was great for Deuce, because she has the stamina to play with him. Beanie could never keep up with him. Perdita has been taking over a more dominant role in the group over the last couple of weeks. This also lets me know that Beanie is really starting to slide.

I just hate this. The only good point that I can come up with other than some wonderful memories, is that we now have a house and a yard. We can bury her in a place where she will always be remembered.

Please pray for Beanie, not for her to recover, because she won't, but for her to go peacefully and not in a lot of pain. She deserves to escape into death as painlessly as any storybook princess would. She is my Princess Bean and I am going to miss her when she is gone in the same way that I still miss my childhood dog Pearl. Pearl was special too and I just know that she and Beanie would have been great friends.

Sorry, I know this is a major ramble, but I am so upset right now that I just don't know what else to do, but to ask for prayers. Thanks. Maggie

Beanie and her loving Mom..
Thank God she has shared her short journey with you :sad1:

I hope she just sleeps...and there is no more hurt for her.
It's so very sad...

We lost our Chihuahua last October. We had found her at a horse show. She was so emaciated, the vet said that she wouldn't have lived another 24 hours if we hadn't found her. She was with us about 3 years.

When we got up that morning, she seemed wobbly, so I told my DD that she needed to take Puddin on to the vet to get checked out. About 5 minutes after that, she started bleeding out of her mouth. I grabbed the truck keys, and DD grabbed a blanket to wrap Puddin in. Ten minutes later, she was gone. The vet made some guesses, but we don't know for sure.

One thing helped - like your Beanie, she was rescued from a bad situation, and the time she had with us was happy (probably the best she had ever had). Take some comfort in that. We'll be praying for both of you.

I am so sorry about your Beanie. It was so nice of you to give her a good home and life. Our pets are so much a part of our families it hurts when they are sick. Sending prayers for you and Beanie.

My mom had a chihuahua that adopted HER. He must have been abused because he was so snappy, especially towards men. Dumb old dog died Christmas day. Like your baby he was sick when they met. He had heartworms. She poured so much money into him I said he cost more per ounce than gold.

Poor Beanie!

BTP, what a sweet pic of your mom and her "baby".

Hugs and prayers to you and Beanie. As a chihuahua mom myself, I know how much those sweet babies mean!!!

I'm sorry to hear that Princess Bean is in pain. I hope that her pain goes away and she can enjoy her remaining days pain free.

My prayers are with you, your wonderful Princess Beanie, and your other beloved pets. I'm sure Beanie knows she is loved and feels lucky to have had the time with you.
