Hi my soon to be South Dakota DISner's!

My parents and I will soon be living in your state, the first part of Aug.2006! Just wanted to see if there are any Disney people living in South Dakota??? We will be moving to the Rapid City area, I hope to meet some wonderful new people out there! And I hope the job market is good, when we come out there!

I don't live in SD, but pretty darn close...I live n Nebraska and I used to live in North Dakota, so I feel qualified to officially welcome you to the Northern Plains states,

:scratchin I was going to bump this up as we need to drive back to Iowa to pick up some inherited items this Spring and I have never been thru South Dakota going to the midwest! I am hoping to pick up some travel and tourist tips down the road.... :teeth: So.....keep in touch once you get moved! :thumbsup2

We are going out this May, to check on our house we bought there this last fall 2005 and to do some job hunting along with getting to know where everything is and all. So I will be sure to keep in touch with you and let you know the 411 on South Dakota! :thumbsup2 :goodvibes

It's exciting to move to a new place, but it is also scares me to death as I have always lived in MN and now we are going to a whole new state, where I don't know anything or anyone for that matter. That's why I thought I would see if there are any Disney people that I might be able to get to know in that area( I hope there is any way).

Welcome to my state!!!

I live in Sioux Falls - just a mere 350 miles from Rapid City - straight east!!

I love my home state - I have always lived here and can't imagine living anywhere else, although my DH would love to take the girls and I to Washington state or someplace where there was never any snow. Bah to him!!

What are you wondering about? I would be glad to help you with anything I can - Rapid is a wonderful place - so close to such beautiful country - we head out that way at least 2 or 3 times a year just for the fun of it.

so anyway - welcome and like I said - if there is anything you need - just let me know - I would be glad to help!!

Hi, obviously I am a long time lurker. I signed up to ask a question about my March 2005 trip and have been reading ever since. Always felt I was a bit too young to chime in (I'm 20) but have always been so interested in the conversations.

However I couldn't pass up replying to this topic. I have never lived in South Dakota but my Dad is from Rapid City and I have been there for at least a few weeks every year of my life.

Rapid City is a beautiful place to live with a great atmosphere and amazing natural beauty and tourist attractions. To start with it is only about 20 mins away from Mount Rushmore which is right outside Keystone, SD. You must stop there and get some taffy from the taffy shop, you can also watch it being made right on location.

Rapid City has a great free park for kids called Storybook Island which features Disney Characters (a walk through Snow White House, Cinderella's tower, etc) There is also a Dinosaur Park.

If you like hiking Harney Peak is close by which is the tallest mountain east of the Rockies, takes about a 2 hr climb. It is also really fun to go tubing on the creek that winds around the town. About an hour's drive away there are some fantasic caves to tour.

One of our favorite things to do is to drive out to Custer where the Black Hills Playhouse is located. We have seen many great shows there including the Sound of Music, Brigadoon, and Nunsense. There is also a wildlife loop to drive around there where you can see buffalo, tons of prarie dogs, and other animals native to South Dakota.

The shopping is also decent (although I am from outside Philly with plenty of shopping) I still have fun at the Rushmore Mall. There are many restaurants to try in town. We love Casa Del Ray which has great mexican food.

Overall, Rapid City is a great place to live and visit with friendly people and way more to do then any part of South Dakota I have ever been and I have been plenty of places (Sioux Falls, Brookings, Mitchell, Huron) The only negative thing is that it can get really hot in the summer and FREEZING cold in the winter.

I think you'll like it. If you have any questions feel free to PM me and I will either help you or ask some family members that still live there. Good luck!

I don't live in SD but I was born there! I was born on Ellsworth AFB and lived in Rapid City. I haven't lived there in over 20 years though.

We lived in Sioux Falls for a couple years. Great town, biggest small town you will ever live in. The Rapid City area is beautiful.

I grew up in Rapid City and now live in Sioux Falls. The surrounding area of RC is beautiful and I am sure you will be able to find tons of things to do year round there. My family (mom & 2 brothers) still live there so I make frequent trips. My oldest DD also lives there now as well, going to college.

Welcome to SD!

Right now I am wondering about jobs, how is the job market out there right now? We plan on coming out there this May for one week to check on jobs and also on our house that we bought already.

Also where are some good places to meet people in SD? I am also looking for a Church that I could go to?

And thank you!
