this year we were hoping to switch from Poly--our home resort to BCV

I already had a week at the poly booked at 11 months out--so wed have a place to stay

so when our 7 month window came up there were a few rooms left for the time we wanted but there was alot opended so if I just moved our trip by a few days --which of course changed our 7 month window it could still work

but as you can guess by this time there was only a few scattered room left

so I want to be ready for booking next year--I noticed the poly still has plenty of days opened

we only have a 100 point contract--so Im concerned and dont want to end up losing or having points into holding

so just to see if I have this waitlist right-I could possibily wait a bit to book poly since as of today theres still rooms and days available

so at the 7 month window I book what I can get at BCV so of course Im using points to do this

we usually go the end of Jan into the beginning of Feb--this yr were there 1-28 to 2-4

lets say at the 7 month window I can book 1-28 29 30 31 so I put in a WL for the rest of the time--does this use any points--except for the ones I used for the first few days

so I keep on checking to see if anything else opens up and book what I can--

what are the pros and cons cause i read that you can put in a WL to expire in 7 days or 30 days--

say I cant get the rest of my days and I dont want to have a WL any more can I move the points I used for BCV and change to poly --or actually any resort since wed be into the 7 month window

sorry this got so long I just want to make sure I know what Im doing for next year

Ive been reading too about walking a reservation--I suppose that doenst work at the 7month time

so IM looking for any and all advice on this WL deal--thanks for any help

No points are taken from your account until a waitlist is fulfilled.

The pro for doing a waitlist that expires 7 days before arrival rather than 30 days is that if there are any last-minute cancellations, you stand a chance of picking one up. The con is that if your waitlist fills anywhere from 30 days to 7 days out, and it takes fewer points than the reservation it is replacing, those points go into holding.

You can modify a reservation to book any available villa inside of the 7-month window. Just be cognizant of the rules concerning holding points and be aware that if the new resort takes fewer points, and you’re past your banking deadline, you will have to use those points before your UY ends.

Ive been reading too about walking a reservation--I suppose that doenst work at the 7month time
It can have limited success because a member who owns at the resort you’re walking could interrupt your walk at any point. You are, in effect, only blocking other owners who do not own at that resort.

That could be a gamble. The conventional advice is to book your home resort at 11 months and then modify at 7. You could split your poly reservation into two separate reservations and then modify one or the other, or both at 7 months, depending on what is available at BCV. If nothing is available at BCV, you can still try a split stay with another resort, switch both reservations to a resort that has availability for all nights or call MS to have them merge the two Poly reservations into one.
