I apoligize if this has been asked before or if I am posting this on the wrong board. My DH and I are planning on going back to WDW in November 2010 and we are exploring all of our options right now before it's time to book. I saw where you can rent points from DVC owners. My DH is dying to stay at the AKV, so I thought this might be a good option to explore! The problem is, I know absolutely nothing about doing this! I have read a lot of the posts on the DVC board but I'm still a little confused. I found the points calculator and played around with it some. I experimented with a 5 day/4 night stay (M-F) in the middle of November for the AKV Studio-Savannah View. It said we would need 48 points, so obviously I'm guessing this is how many points we would need to rent. My main question is, can you rent points from any owner to stay at any DVC resort? Do you just tell them where you want to stay? Also, how do you go about buying your dining plan? If there is anything else you think I need to know about renting points, please feel free to share! Again I apologize if this is something that has been asked before. I'm just not sure where to start! :confused3

There is a Rent/Trade board right below this one that will have various stickys and offers. That's probably a good starting place. Understand, though, that the member you are renting from controls your reservation...not you. They will book the reservation for you, add the dining plan (which you pay for when you check in), and you may or may not be entitled to various DVC perks (free internet, etc.) when you get to your villa. Definitely feel free to ask any specific questions you have, and I'm sure that the member from whom you're renting points will probably also assist you. Happy planning!

One more question...or I guess it's really two! How far out can you book, a year? and do you pay the whole total for the points when the owner makes the reservation for you, or is this up to each individual owner?

a DVC owner can book 11 months out for their home resort and 7 months out for any DVC resort with availability. so if you want to book AKV at 11 months out, you would need to contact an AKV owner.

you may or may not have noticed that sun-thursday stays are cheaper than fri-sat nights...but you can add a sunday night fairly cheaply if it fits your schedule.

also, DVC is a timeshare and typically books up well in advance, so by this point, choices for this November may be limited. (this is FYI, i know you said Nov 2010.)

it's up to each individual owner.

edited to add: be aware that point costs for 2010 are different than point costs for 2009. you may be looking at 2009 numbers.
