I was wondering if anyone could offer me some advice. Friends of mine planned to take their kids to Disney last year (their 2nd trip as a family there) part of the reason for their trip was also to celebrate their anniversary. Unfortunately, the night before they were to leave my friends husband was the victim of a crime and almost lost his life that night. Thankfully almost one year later and many, many surgeries he is doing much better. In this same year my friends husband suffered the loss of his twin brother. Needless to say it has been a very hard year for them. It was extremely hard to explain to their two kids why there were not leaving for Disney and why their dad was in the hospital so long. Disney was for a time almost like a sore spot for them. They could not think of Disney without directly relating it his incident. I am happy to say that they have finally decided to get past this part of their life and they have planned a trip to Disney! Now my question is what can I do to help make it even more special for them. I have already decided to get them TourGuideMike, but I want to do something for them while they are there. Any suggestions?
Also, I want to give them this link for planning purposes but I want to wait so they don't see this.
Thanks for any and all help you can offer.

You can be with them all along which will provide them moral strength.Make your trip more funny that so they dont remember the past.Enjoy.

Wow, what a sad story. You are sweet to want to help them have a wonderful time. How about a balloon bouquet and a plate of snacks delivered to their room at check-in? How about giving them personalized, matching t-shirts before they leave? You could even mail those in for delivery at check-in. I think your help with the planning will be nice, too.

Feralpeg here on the Dis does great baskets at Peggysweetsandmore.com or something like that. that would be nice she also does room decorations as well now. It would be nice for the kids to come back to their room and find it all done up

I can't find the link just now but there is a postcard forward thread. The children could be sent a postcard from their favourite character ;) saying looking forward to them visiting :goodvibes

I like the gift basket ideas they can get expensive though. How about Disney Dollars for the kids for souviners? I'm sure after a year of traumatic events, any financial help is appreciated.

Thank you all for your ideas. I think I will get some disney dollars for the kids and see about getting their room decorated on their anniversary or maybe a basket for that day would be easier. Thanks again. Their trip is the end of September so I don't have much time.

Oh yeah, I also love the postcard idea if you can find the link I would absolutely appreciate it. Thanks again.

The thread that you are looking for is called****fairy godmailer list**** and is in the disney for families forum.
Just post your request for the dates you need and hopefully someone going in the next while will be willing to send the cards. Ask them to "PM" you and you can give them the address and details for the cards.
Good luck to you and best wishes for both you and your friends.pixiedust:

WOW!! Is Feralpeg back to doing them? I know that she did one for me last year in May for my mom and daughter, then at the end of the summer said that she weas going back to teaching and was quitting. I had no clue that she was doing them again!! Can you tell that I'm excited?? :cool1: :woohoo: With that said, I would DEFINITELY recommend a basket from her!

It would take some research on your part but you could get them the character calls for the kids while they are there.
