please help

I don't like wearing sneakers so decided to take them, but wear my sandles. Had no problem at all with my feet. Even wore fllip-flops on the last day because of the water rides at AK and had no problem. Will do the same this year.

Many doctors have told us that new balance tennis shoes are the best. Let me tell you---I have horrible foot pain. What saved my feet last trip was a pair of crocs. Yes they are ugly but they work. Try them! Your feet will be great!

It's weird, when in Disney, I wore sandals (earthshoe something or other) I bought at Wal-Mart. I wore them most of the trip, we walked on average 10 miles a day (thanks to our trusty pedometer), and with those sandals, my feet NEVER even ached. The one day I wore my New Balance sneakers, I thought I might die. So, maybe there's something to the NB sneaks after all.

Isn't that ironic? I love my cheap $2.50 Old Navy flip flops. They're the only sandals I can wear without wanting to chop my feet off. :)

Which New Balance shoes are you wearing? Saying "New Balance" doesn't really mean much. Are they cushioning/neutral, stability, or motion control? Are they running shoes, cross-trainers, tennis shoes...? New Balance does make a great shoe, but they are only great if they are the right shoe for you.

I'd suggest going to a sports store (a running/walking store would be best) where they can fit you for shoes by watching your gait (how high are your arches? Do they fall when you walk? Do you over-pronate? Do you under pronate? etc) and get you into a good shoe for you.

It might turn out that you do need an orthodic ('over-the-counter' or specially made), but you can likely get a lot of relief by just being properly fitted. You need a store where the sales staff knows how to fit, rather than choosing shoes based on colour or design.

I started having sore arches and went to the podiatrist. I have a high arch and needed supports to put in my shoes. The pt that worked with my feet recommended New Balance as well. I couldn't buy any of the cheaper stylish ones though, Oh no, I had to get the super expensive old lady looking ones. They did help but they seemed so heavy and clunky. Try just adding supports to your shoes.

I have high arches, and ended up with severe plantar fasciitis which wouldn't go away for 2 1/2 years. New Balance motion control shoes were recommended by my podiatrist at the beginning, with motion control inserts as well. They felt good, but did little to solve the problem. I ended up having sports orthotics made, and put them inside Brooks Addiction 7 sneaks, and in time my feet healed. I now wear either the Brooks Addictions both with and without orthotics, and alternate with any Keen shoe or sandal. Haven't had a problem since.

Thank you everyone for posting and offering your advice. My first thought was to go buy a pair or Crocs fro our upcoming trip(even though I think they are uglier than sin) but then I heard some people say they gave them terrible blisters. Im really confused on what to do or buy and it suprises me that a podiatrist would recommend New Balance when both me and my husband have had so much trouble wearing ours(never had problems before with any other shoe) I think Im going to maybe get a rally good pair of Nike because they have arch supports where the New Balance do not. I had a pair of Nike a longtime ago and I dont remember them hurting my feet. Ya'll (can you tell I'm from the south) say a little prayer and send me some pixie dust!!!

I have a job that keeps me on my feet for 8 hours, standing in place and walking around some. In Dec. when we went I thought I would be fine, but I was very wrong. My feet tingled and burned the first 2 days. I had tennis shoes that I had bought a few months prior and used for walking in my neighborhood so they were good and broken in. I spent the first 2 nights at CBR soaking my feet!

This year I brought tennis shoes but ended up wearing Old Navy flip flops the entire time. NOT once did my feet hurt.

Hope that you are able to get relief this time!

When my DBF and I went in 2005 I wore flip flops (the Adidas velcro kind) and my feet never hurt. Thir year I wore the same thing and my feet were killing me. im bringing sneakers and flip flops...maybe alternating will help.

My boyfriend has bad feet. He was young when it was diagnosed. Sometimes it has nothing to do with how slender or in shape you are (he was both slender and in shape). His feet would hurt so bad he could barely walk. He found out after seeing a foot doctor that he has weak arches and now has arch supports (professionally made shoe inserts) that he must wear in his shoes.

We swear by these:

They have everything from sneakers to sandles to dress shoes. We originally bought them for Disney, now wear them almost all the time.

I have high arches. A few years ago I bought a pair of Merrell sandals now I can walk in the parks all day and neither my legs nor my feet hurt at all!!

One thing that I do in the evenings is roll a tennis ball or other softish but firm ball under my feet. I put lots of pressure down on the ball and it helps to stretch out your arch again and feels really good. My podiatrist suggested I do this when I had plantar fascitis and although I don't have problems with that anymore I still do the ball trick, especially after a long day on my feet.

That sounds great!!! I'm going to give it a try!!! :thanks:

I, too, have problems with my feet. I am youngish, in good shape, etc. For the last few years, per Dr. advice, I have been wearing arch supports in my shoes. New Balance works well for me because I have a narrow foot and I can get them in the correct width and the correct size with a good pair of inserts works wonders. As others have said, it is not the brand of shoes, but the correct fit and the right type of shoe for your foot problem. If you are a suppinator (foot rolls out when walking) and you buy a Nike shoe for a pronator (foot rolls in when walking), you will still have problems. And if you need additional arch support, even with a great shoe you will still need an insert that is designed for your foot type. Get to a good store that specializes in running shoes. They will have staff that is trained with what type of shoe will help your problem. Some of them actually have a computerized foot pad that you can stand on and it will read the imprint of your foot and give you a much better assessment of what type of shoe is appropriate.
