Anyone know if you can use Visa DEBIT cards in the states ?

No idea but your bank or debit card company should be able to tell you. In my recent experience, it is worth ringing them anyway to let them know you will be using the card in the USA - that way they do not think that it has been stolen.

I used my Lloyds TSB VISA debit card last month as both a credit and ATM card .

Any card that got a VISA, Mastercard, cirrus etc should work.

Helen's HSBC switch card ( Cirrus ) worked in an ATM no probs.
