Hi! We're heading out on the DCL Wonder out of Puerto Rico in January and have decided to spend a couple days at WDW now instead of in San Juan. So, this is kind of a last minute trip and somewhere I've never been. We were able to get a room just off property and plan on spending 2 days in the parks with park hoppers. Here's where my questions start.. being veteran Disneylanders, I am not sure how the Fast Passes work at WDW since I think it's different. Do they even have paper fast passes if you don't have a magic band? I understand we can buy Magic Bands, but are they necessary? I guess that's my only real confusion.. do I NEED to purchase magic bands and how do I get a fast pass for a ride?

Thanks!

FASTPASSES at Disney World are slightly different, there is no paper tickets.
There are two ways to book a FP either on the MyDisney app or at the various kiosks in the Disney Parks, where you will book a time slot.
Because you are staying offsite you can book your FP on the MyDisney app 30 days out, whereas those staying onsite can book them 60 days out from when they are going to use the FP.

In relation to the theme parks there will be a few of rides that FP will need to be booked in advanced including:
Navi River Journey (Animal Kingdom)
Peter Pan Flight (Magic Kingdom)
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (Magic Kingdom)

They are just a few.

In relation to booking your FP on the days you are there, you may find some of the major attraction FP are gone. This is just the nature of Disney World and the major attractions unfortunately.

You will be issued with a card and purchasing the Magic Bands are not a must, unless you wish to have one (they are around $12 I believe) There is not real additional benefits of getting the magic band, other than it goes around your wrist and looks a bit prettier.

You’ll need to set up a My Disney Experience account where you’ll link your tickets.

30 days out from each park day is when you can book your FPs (3) for that specific day. After using your 3 FPs in a park, you’ll be able to book another FP while in the line for FP#3... and so on to book more FPs 1 at a time.

I did see that sticky post you mentioned but thought it was just information relevant to FastPass+ option which I understood to be extra $ and I didn't think we were do. Maybe I understood wrong? Maybe I do need the plus?

When My Magic Plus became the ‘thing’ for WDW - FastPass+ differentiated it from regular (old) paper FP.

Now it’s the only FastPass and the ‘+’ is dropped off of most references... except the title of that Sticky. ;)

So, it’s only FP and anyone with tickets can pre-book FPs. All the info is in that thread and if you have any questions, please post and mesaboy2 or others will be along to assist you. :)

Ohhh ok! Thank you for clearing that up!
