Agggghhh! I don't know what I am doing wrong.

I keep trying to download my pics and Photoshop comes up but the blue light on the camera never comes on and the pics don't start to download.

It keeps saying device is busy or camera is not connected.

I have hooked and re-hooked the USB cord from the camera and computer and rebooted numerous times to no avail.

Please help! Any suggestions on what the problem cld be would be appreicated!

is it just photoshop or the downloader that is opening?...don't know which photoshop you are using but in elements 5 you need to open the downloader unless you have it set to automatically open...see if you either click on the camera like download icon in the sytem tray and say launch or open it via the organizer think it's in edit under get photos . when it opens it should be a gray page that has a scroll down on the top where you select the device you are using to download from ie drive or camera( i have the detailed downloader open so it might be different for the auto downloader)

CHeck to see if your download program is open. I dont like to move the images from the camera. I would highly reccomend getting a card reader. I open the card up throught the card reader and move the files over to the computer into its folder that way. Then i go throught the images and open them up in PS2.

I have PS Elements 6.0.

I get to the grey box but before it gives you the various program options of what you want to open to complete the download, it times out and says that the system is busy or camera is not connected.

Like the others said, get yourself a card reader and you'll be much happier.

If your camera uses SD cards, you can get an SD reader for only $7 shipped. It's SDHC-compatible, which means that it'll work with SD and SDHC (4+ gigs) cards. I have two of them and they work great and are a steal for the price.

Can someone please explain to me what the advantage is to a card reader?

I am not sure I get it. From what I understand, it eliminates wear and tear on the camera battery when doing downloads (which is not a big deal to me - I have rechargeables) and eliminates the need for a USB cord (which again is no big deal to me as I have one).

Doesn't it merely do the same thing that a USB cord does? How is it better?

I am ready to be convinced...I just think I am missing something!

TIA!:)

***And I can't believe it, but I still can't get pics to download. No programs are registering on PS to allow the download to occur. This is so annoying!!!

Shut down all the programs that start up when you plug in the camera.

Then go to "My Computer". Do you see the camera, or the camera memory listed as a drive? If so then you can select and copy to the computer. Never move the files, always copy. I do not delete the pics on my cards until I need the card again. Just in case...

Oh, and I think the card reader might be much faster downloads. It was for me.

I have found the card reader to be a bit safer as well. I own a Photo shop and have had a number of people come in that were in the middle of downloading their pics and the camera shut off. When they got it back on it said there were no images and did you want to format the card. I used a recovery program and with one guy recovered over 300 images from a trip to CHina he just got back from.
The other reason I use one is the download is so much faster on the reader than the camera, and witht he bigger cards that makes a difference after a long day at the parks.

I tried that too. No luck.

I got to the point where is said that the computer was getting or reading the files on the camera and then it stopped and said the camera is busy or in use.

At least the errors whether using the My Computer or PS are the same - device is busy or camera is in use.

Now to figure out why this error keeps occurring! I just downloaded over 200 pics 3 days ago with no problems at all!

I just had a similar problem, the card reader was coming up on my device list but taking forever to download., tried it via my camera and same thing..i finally shut the whole thing off, rebooted the computer and it worked again...the last time i had this type of problem was when i had a large catalog and not much room left on my hard drive...now all my photos are on my external drive so not sure why this happened again. i thought it was the card reader but really think it might be some glitch with elements...see if you can repair elements or maybe redownload it...i think sometimes elements just goes nutty.

Thanks for your post.

I actually was thinking myself that lack of memory may be the problem. I have a ton of photos on my hard drive and I just heard about the existence of an external hard drive recently. I don't have one but will look into getting one.

Recently the computer indicated windows was running on virtual memory. Maybe this is the problem.

I am going to do a clean out tonite of old photos onto discs and free up some space and see if that helps.
