Over the last couple of days, I started noticing some pain in one of my toes from my running shoes (while working out). Well, today I hit my toenail very hard and now it's bleeding all around the nail. I tried wiping it with some water/towel, and I noticed that the entire nail is coming off. It's really hurting. I don't have access to a car right now (I will in a few hours) to go to the doctor. Any thoughts on what I can do in the meantime?

From someone who's lost a few toenails due to soccer related injuries and such, I would simply tell you to try not to walk on it, wear loose fitting shoes, and keep it wrapped up in a bandaid with neosporan.

Just keep it wrapped, and take tylenol and/or an ice pack for the pain

I don't think you need to go to the doctor, unless it will make you feel better emotionally.

Thanks all. Between your responses, my research and talking with my mom (been through this kind of thing), I'm just going to soak it, put a bandaid on it and make sure it doesn't get infected. I took tylenol for the pain so hopefully that will kick in soon. I've never had such a thing happen before, so I just wanted to make sure I did the right thing. I'll keep my eye on it. Thank you!!
