My niece broke her foot a few days ago and we are leaving for Disneyland on the 25th. She is in a cast and on crutches and I will be pushing her around the parks in a wheelchair. I keep telling her she can do all of the rides, except maybe the water rides, but she keep melting down thinking she can't.

Please tell me she can! Her cast is below the knee so she can bend it and I think will be fine, even on roller coasters etc. The poor thing is just freaking out. Disneyland is her favorite place on earth!

Thanks,
Tina

She'll be able to go on just about everything. Maybe she can get the characters to sign her cast?

If it is possible, can you get one of those "waterproof" casts instead of the traditional plaster? I had one when I broke my arm a few years ago. I could shower with it and everything--that way she could go on the water rides too. It might cost extra--but worth it. :thumbsup2

You might also want to visit the theme park access board--it has a lot of hints I believe for getting around with a wheelchair.

Good luck--and have fun!

she will be able to ride everything, and if as previously suggested you are able to get a waterproof cast then there will be no restrictions. She will need to transfer from her chair to the ride vehicle, but that should pose no problem.

My DH has been confined to a wheelchair for the last several years and we visit DL as often as we can (ok like once a year) not as often as we'd like :(

anyway in DL where the rides are built mostly pre-ADA, you will enter through the exit and have a much shorter line, especially in Fantasyland. In CA it is a bit easier to get around as the walkways are much wider, and most of the rides have "mainstreamed" the wheelchairs.

there are special viewing areas for parades fantasmic that get the wheelchair person a more or less unobstructed view.

the biggest problem we have is that people don't "see" the wheelchair or it's occupant, can't tell you how often DH has had some stranger nearly land in his lap trying to cut in front of him in a crowd.

DL and the castmembers are wonderful for the wheelchair bound.

on our last visit not only was my DH in the chair, but early on during our trip my Dear Sis rolled an ankle and it became too painful for her to spend all day on, so we wound up renting her a chair, making us a party of 7.. 3 teens, a 4 yr old in a stroller and two chairs, we were surely a frustration for folks trying to commando through the parks. :rolleyes1

Not only can she do all the rides but because she'll be in a wheelchair your whole group will get to use the handicap access lanes for the queues. Like on POTC you enter through the exit and the wait is usually a fraction of the time compared to standing in the regular line when it is busy.

Handicap + Disney = great disney experience!

We saw a young man at Disneyland with a cast on his arm, and while all I remember was that someone with a sense of humor signed "break a leg" on it, hubby remember that a few characters had already signed it. :goodvibes

YEP! Last year I had to rent an ECV as I was having problems with my feet! We never really waited for anything, which was very nice, especially in the heat and crowds of June!
