General Star Wars Discussion

Do you find it interesting that they are taking out the ST stuff and going to OT characters at Disneyland?

Well, they're not really taking out much ST stuff - though I know you'd love that - but they are adding them in. Rise of the Resistance and that area will remain "Resistance Camp" with Rey and other ST characters. Smuggler's Run will be getting new missions with Mando/Ahsoka, which fits into the "New Republic" era. OT characters will be toward the stage witht the ship that Kylo Ren would come out of. They are slightly retheming the Droid Depot, Savi's Workshop, and Oga's Cantina to align differently to the timeline, not that the timeline much matters. Personally, I say mix it all up - make it 100% Prequels, since they are the best anyway....

Man, I read this blurb about the animation on Maul:

“The series features stylized animation emblematic of the gritty new cityscape locale of Janix combined with old-school filmmaking methods to capture painterly brushstrokes on glass and other physical elements.

Cinematography Lighting & VFX Director Joel Aron really took it up a notch with going back to the practical ways of capturing brush strokes by painting them on glass, shooting them then strategically placing them in shots,” says Executive Producer and Vice President of Lucasfilm Animation Athena Portillo. "He even went back to establishing matte paintings on canvas. There's always different challenges with every show that we do, but this one in particular raised the bar. We also wanted the animation body mechanics and the facial to be more fluid from our previous work and animation director Keith Kellogg worked closely with CGCG and our internal animation team to upgrade the performances of our main characters."

Wow! They are doing some great animation work on this, blending the CG with other elements. Those backgrounds look so amazing, and that's why! The full article is here:

As long as they continue to minimize the divisive ST garbage I am happy. Give the fans what they want and that isn’t ST, whether you agree or not.

I believe Filoni understands the lore exponentially better than KK, and will not repeat her mistakes in disrespecting the OT fan base who made this franchise what it is.

Disney isn’t stupid, they are course correcting.

These changes are also only confirmed to be happening in Disneyland. Luke has been roaming there for over a year and has yet to come to Disney World. Add in Ahsoka, Fennec Shane as well that never made it to the East Coast version of Galaxy’s Edge

Disneyland by its crowd makeup has to offer more unique character offerings for guests to maintain.

Disney World has such more of a broad reach they don’t really see as much of a reason to rush changing things

It's easier to change to the OT in Disneyland and bring in new people. I'd imagine attendance at DLR's version drops off so having something new is always helpful. Locals come out for new things. That's harder to do in WDW where it's vacationers. The closest comp is Harry Potter at the two Universals but one is lacking Diagon Alley due only to space limitations. Isn't Smuggler's Run changing to the Mando & Grogu missions in WDW?

The Mando missions are coming to WDW as far as I know. Honestly, I think it will all eventually come there, however I feel like WDW doesn't like doing face characters because it's more difficult to find people with the right look, so you may not see Luke Skywalker, but I think other aspects will be brought over eventually. It's mostly pretty small stuff.

At most the Mando missions at Smugglers Run and Vader make it to WDW. I doubt the rest of what’s happening in DLand are in the immediate future.

Absolutely… Disney can do SW experiences unique to the different parks.

We very frequent WDW visitors, but I've only been to DL once, 2002. I would love to try and plan a trip out there in the near future, and experience all the new stuff, Marvel, and all the unique rides/experiences. So jealous! They get all the cool, good stuff. But we live close enough to drive to WDW, and it's a regular destination, so anything and everything they want to add there is appreciated. Star Wars weekends used to offer so, so many meet/greets, face characters. This is all pre-Galaxy's Edge, but we got to meet Luke, Leia, Mace, Anakin, Ventress, and a few more. I have always, always wondered why WDW doesn't just have more meet/greets.
We love Smuggler's Run. We usually do the regular line at least once to be pilots, then DS and I will just ride 4-5 more times in the single rider. I don't mind being the engineer with other people. It's just fun. I'm looking forward to Mando missions. I hope they leave Hondo in the preshow/welcome video.
When we used to rope drop HS, soon after GE opened, we often heard the Throne Room theme. I think the Flag Parade would play too. Any John Williams music they want to add is appreciated.
I just read that the Darth Vader meet/greet moved to near Star tours, after Launch Bay closed.
