PLEASE HELP - Pen Broke in Dryer

Can anyone please help me and let me know if it is at all possible to get pen marks, lots of it, out of the dryer.

It seems that my ds left a pen in his pants pocket

It didn't come out in the washer but when I opened the dryer, the pen had somehow lodged itself on the side of the machine (just the ink part) and was almost depleted of the ink. The ink is ALL over the inside of the machine, like someone took a marker and drew lines all over the inside of the machine.

The pants were uniform school sweat pants and I put them in with towels and it doesn't look like any pen got on any of the items.
The next load I had is/was all towels so I threw them in the dryer since it was my last load but very worried what will happen once I put in whites or colors or anything else.

So, if it's dried or smeared inside the drum of the dryer, or like around the mouldings ?

I would start with a Magic Eraser, those things will get perm marker off walls,
Follow up with some bleach wipes ? Or maybe even get one of those Magic erasers with cleaner in it ?

Have you tried rubbing alcohol? Or hair spray if you don't have any?

Saturate a paper towel with the alcohol, or spray the hair spray onto the marks, and then blot at the ink.

Once off, wipe out the dryer with LOTS of water and leave the door open overnight to let any fumes dissipate before using it.

It is dried and smeared around the entire drum When the dryer is on, does it get "soft" and get on the clothes? I am going to first try below recommendation and if that does not work, tomorrow I will go buy the Magic Eraser. I love them.

Thank you. I am not sure if I have the rubbing alcohol but will look now.
I definately have hair spray. I have my last load in the dryer now and they should be done. I am going down now to see if I can clean this. I honestly don't care what the inside looks like but I am worried it will get soft and then get all over the clothes.

If anyone has any other suggestions while I'm gone, please let me know.

aerosol hairspray will take ink off of the inside of the dryer. But you probably aren't ever going to get it all off (I speak from personal experience )

The good news is, that when it happened to me, I never saw ink on any of the clothes that I put in the dryer afterwards. It dried onto the inside of the dryer and never came off (the marks are still there, and it happened YEARS ago)

You could do a test run and just throw an old towel or two through a cycle and see if it comes off on clothes/towels.

Also, in the future, I would suggest hanging your pens out to dry on a clothesline after washing.

We just went through this as well. I used nail polish remover and lots of scrubbing to get much of it off (followed by a nice wipe-down with a wet towel to get rid of any polish fumes). Most of it came off....anything left on the drum has not gotten on any subsequent loads of laundry.

This happened to me years ago.

Yup, I sat on the floor of my laundry room in front of the dryer and using the rubbing alcohol … I just kept spinning the drum around with my hand and wiping it all off with a towel. Then I did as others have posted, I ran the dryer with a few towels. Making sure the ink did not come off on the towels. Surprising for me, the ink was not on any of the clothes.

Since that day, I always always check all pockets!

1. Fill a sink half way with 1 gallon of water. Pour a 1/2 cup of bleach in the water.

2. Put a white towel in the bleach water. Let the towel soak in the water for five minutes.

3. Wring most of the water from the towel. Carry the towel to the dryer.

4. Put the wet towel in an empty dryer. Turn the dryer on for 20 minutes and then check to make sure all the ink is gone. If there is still a small amount of ink and the towel is still wet, leave the towel in the dryer for an additional 15 more minutes or longer.

5. Wipe down the dryer with a white cloth, damp with water only, to make sure all the bleach residue is gone.

I went through this a couple days ago, but with a crayon instead of a pen. I tried the Magic Erasers and it dind't work, but maybe it will work on ink. Good luck!

THANK YOU! I used the rubbing alcohol and feel like I need drinking alcohol myself after that awful experience. It didn't take the marks off but they are much lighter so I don't think there is excess to get on the clothes (fingers crossed). hhmmm....perhaps that would be a good addition to the little dis smilies...one that has his fingers crossed...oh well. back on topic.
I did not clean the inside of the drum after I was done with water. I cleaned it with Glass Plus. I used a few clean papertowels saturated with Glass Plus on each section of the drum to clean. I did keep the dryer open and will do so all night. I hope the light bulb inside the dryer doesn't go out.

I will though buy a Magic Eraser the next time I am out and see if that works but won't run out to the store tomorrow after work to do so.

Thank you. Do you think the aerosol hairspray would work even better than the rubbing alcohol. I figured the hairspray would be second best since it has some alcohol in it but less than the rubbing alcohol. I believe I am in the same boat as you. It looks like I got most of the excess off and the rest is baked into the dryer, which although doesn't look great, it looks much better than it did an hour ago. Your response makes me feel so much better that it happened to you years ago but you don't have any ink on your clothes. My dryer drum sounds like the inside of yours

Thanks for letting me know about the nail polish remover. It seems that alcohol is the common ingredient to getting the ink out.

At first, I was scrubbing and standing and worried how the heck I would be able to do the top and the sides good enough until my brain started working and realized I could spin the drum. Stupid me

Thanks so much. This is a great tip! I am sure others will use. I got it off I think but there are many stains just not as dark as they were originally.
