what do I do? My son who is in AP cal cannot miss the amt of class required for this trip and still maintain an A. So, he may be staying at home this trip. The trip is 3 weeks away. I will have to chnage cindy's breakfast and Cali Grill because theya re held by CC but do I ahve to change the others? In most cases its the same type of setting for 3vs 4? If I have to change will I lose my adr's? I am freaking out!

I would not worry about it. A table for 3 and a table for 4 are the same size. If you try to book for 3 they may not be able to "fit" you in.

When I tried to book for 3 a previous year they had nothing. I changed it to 4 and there were tables. Sometimes they were annoyed when I showed up, but I do not see the issue.

When I do solo trips I no longer put in 1. Sometimes a table for 2 is available and a table for 1 is not, even in the same location. Now I just book for 2.

I never had an issue. YMMV. Would be good to hear what others experiences with this are.

This is (unintentionally, I'm sure) bad advice.

If a restaurant has a credit card guarantee, the will charge you for the number of people on the ADR.

Your choices are:
1) change your ADRs
2) cancel any ADRs you can't change
3) just show up with 3 and pay for 4

I've not tried it at places with a cc guarentee, but at the others they do not do this. I also wonder if they really would charge you at places even with a cc guarentee...I mean I'm sure LOTS of folks at WDW get sick. It's one thing to have an ADR for ten and show up with two - but if you have an ADR for four and three show up, I think that's different.

As I said, I've never tried it, I'd just be surprised. I always thought the cc guarentee was to prevent no-shows. We don't eat at the cc guarantee places. I find the policy obnoxious. I don't want to find myself in op's situation! (Say, should someone get ill while we are there, I don't want to be stressed about missing a stupid ADR - or getting charged if less folks show up:scared1:!)

You'll have to change those that required a cc, otherwise you'll be charged. The other ADR's - I'd call and ask them to switch from 4 to 3. If they say they can't do it, I'd leave the ADR's alone. The size of table top required for 3 vs. 4 is the same, so it's not like you're holding up a larger table for a smaller party. If you were going from 4 to 2, that would be different. I also can't see why they would make a fuss - a simple, "I'm sorry, one of our party can't make it today" at check-in should suffice.

Just call and see what they say. If they cannot change you to a 3 table they will let you know. Last year with the new dining system this did not seem to be a problem, when I had to change from 5 to 4.

Also you can go online and see if you can book tables for 3 yourself. If you can then you can book these and then go back and type in your reservation #'s and then cancel the old ones. Or you can just call to see if they can do it easier for you.

You shouldn't have much trouble at most places. We had a party of 5, and we made all our ADRs for 5. On most nights, someone in the group was tired after the long day and decided to stay in. (Plus, I got sick, but that's another story.) We managed to keep every ADR, but I think almost every night we turned out to be a party of 2 or 4 instead of 5. No one even said anything about it when we checked in. It might have been different if we'd tried to add people, but removing people from the ADR was a non-issue.

I agree 100%. The OP had stated she knew about the ones with the CC but was concerned with the others. That is where my advice came in.

Just to provide support on this (for non-CC-held ADRs), I was actually told to do this by the first CM that did my ADRs for my upcoming trip. (It was 27-Oct, so I got to do them twice! heh) She attempted 1 first, found nothing, and then tried 2 and found plenty of openings. Unfortunately, her system crashed so I had to try again later.

The 2nd CM told me that it shouldn't be that way, but she tried anyway. Much to her surprise, the same thing happened. She then put all my other ones in as 2 adults. Of course, with CC-held ADRs, you're going to have to call, but for the others, I wouldn't worry too much.

ETA:
"CC-Held" and "Prepay" may also be two different beasts (more in relation to mickeyluv'r's post above). Places like CRT/HDD may treat this differently than CG/Akershus. Don't know for sure at all, but logic would suggest that (then again, this IS Disney, and logic does not always work!)

I will call in the am and change the party size on my CC ADR's the rest I will not stress over. Thanks!
