Our sailing in 2 days just got changed from Eastern to Western Caribbean on the Fantasy. We are probably going to sail rather than cancel...still debating a little. We've been Western lots of times and not too excited about doing it again. But, would love to go on a Disney Cruise anywhere right now. The only port we've never been to is Costa Maya. And it's so close I can't even pull up the possible excursions on the website. To be honest I'm not sure we're getting off the ship at Nassau or Cozumel. We've done them so many times.

We are most interested in going to a beautiful, relaxing beach that's not too far from the port at CM. Something where we can jump in a cab, rent a few lounge chairs, and have access to food and drinks. Doesn't need to be fancy but looking for a beach that's nice and not overly crowded. Maybe a resort if that's an option?? Does something like this exist in Costa May?? We literally found out 10 minutes ago and we're leaving tomorrow for the airport.

Thanks for any help or suggestions you can provide!!

There aren't any beautiful relaxing beaches or resorts in Mahahual, just a long row of bar beach clubs. As long as you don't have unvaxed in your group you could book Maya Chan. They are about 3 miles south of town and provide transportation. You get your own palapa with chairs, beach bed and hammock, pretty good food and lots of drinks. Beach may or may not be covered with weed - the whole coast is like that. Or you could do an excursion to Chachoben ruins. Takes an hour to get there on dead straight road but ruins are spectacular. We have done tubing at Bacalar 7 Colors Lagoon but this adds another 45 minutes each way. There is also a water park right at the port with zip lines and lazy river. Haven't been to that one yet (my cruises kept getting cancelled for some strange reason).

When we stopped in Costa Maya on a cruise in October the water park at the port was closed. I just checked their website and it says they are still closed. We did the Chacchoben ruins and enjoyed them. I'm glad we didn't choose any beach or water-related excursions there - the water was rough and murky and there was quite a bit of kelp, seaweed and trash at the port. Quite a contrast from the beautiful water in Cozumel!

I've done the water park once but recently enjoyed a no-excursion day at Costa Maya. There's an awesome aviary in the port where you can feed a bunch of birds and get great views of the port, including the dolphins they have there for swimming. Then, they have a nice pool with a swim up bar with an awesome mango daiquri. That left time for lounging, shopping, and eating before heading back to the ship.

Maya Chan beach resort is an all inclusive and we really like it there. We had it booked for our cruise in December but they cancelled it because we were the only people booked. We were the only cruise ship in town and people with unvaccinated kids couldn't book it due to the DCL policy. The water in Costa Maya is not as nice as Cozumel due to the tidal flow in the Gulf, but they have people there cleaning the sea grass and it wasn't awful. We've been at CC when it's been way worse. Not sure if they will be open when you are scheduled to be there, but it's a good option if they are IMO.

We were in Costa Maya in September and took our cruise line's excursion to the Chacchoben Mayan ruins. I was surprised how much I enjoyed it! The hardest part was trying to figure out how to get back to the ship through the mall/port area. They really work hard to keep you wandering around in the mall area.
