I have a question that I have managed to get myself bamboozled thinking about. Say you have points at 2 resorts e.g. BWV and SSR. I know you can book at your home resort at 11 months and other resorts at 7 months.

Now let's say (all figures hypothetical not accurate) you have 200 points altogether, 100 at each resort. If you want to stay at, say, SSR for a stay costing 200 points altogether, can you book at 11 months for the whole stay even though you won't have enough SSR points in that use year to cover them. Or can you only book the stay costing 100 points and have to add the rest on at 7 months?

I have a feeling that I am making this much more complicated than it needs to be but I have got myself extremely confused.

New person here and I think I know this one.
You can only book at 11 months the amount of points that you have at that resort. So you would be able to book:
SSR 100 points
BWV 100 points
unless you had banked points or wanted to borrow points. Then at the 7 month you could move part of your booking (depending on availability of course) to all one resort.
We 2 contracts like that and that is how it worked out for us. But we have voted for the first time anyway to make the move and look at it as 2 new places to see.:earsboy:
If I am not exactly right someone please let me know as I am learning also.
Thank you

The 11 month advantage applies to your home resort only ... meaning 100 at the 11 month window and 100 at the 7 month window. However, you might borrow the next years allocation and score all 200 at the 11 month window, bank/borrow to do the same at the other home resort either that same year or the next year. The first sentence says it all ... the rest is just to get your mind going again! LOL

A little more to try to help.

1st year. Borrow 100 BWV bank 100 SSR. Use 200 BWV w/11 month window.

2nd Year. Use 200 SSR (100 banked from year 1) w/11 mo. window. Bank 100 BWV.

So, while you can only use home resort points for 11 month window, if you bank and borrow right, you can use your full point amoutn at the 11 month window. (Keep in mind, you could not do BWV at 11 mo 2 years in a row or vise versa.)

HTH!

HTH!

In this scenario, the second year you can't bank 100 BWV because you borrowed them this year.

Let's try again!

1st year - Bank 100 SSR. Borrow 100 BWV. Use 200 BWV.
2nd year - Use 200 SSR. (no other points left)
3rd year - Same as first. Start w/ 100 of each. Bank 100 SSR. Borrow 100 BWV. Use 200 BWV.

Same outcome. 200 points with 11 mo window every year. Just changes which resort has window.

Maybe this will help:

UY 1: At BWV, borrow 100 from UY2 and stay at BWV for 200, bank 100 from SSR into UY 2.

UY 2: You have used BWV points for this year. You now have 200 SSR points, stay there.

UY 3: At BWV, borrow 100 from UY4 and stay at BWV for 200, bank 100 from SSR into UY 4.

UY 4: You have used BWV points for this year. You now have 200 SSR points, stay there.

UY 5: At BWV, borrow 100 from UY6 and stay at BWV for 200, bank 100 from SSR into UY 6.

Too complicated. Just buy more points with the money you could save from not buying Advil.:teeth:

Say you had 100 points at SSR and 100 points at OKW.

You can:
1. Book 100 points worth of stay at SSR using your SSR points at the 11 month window and then wait till the 7 month window to book the rest of your SSR stay using OKW points. The risk here is that you will not get what you want at SSR at the 7 month window.
2. Book 100 points worth of stay at SSR at the 11 month window using this year's points and borrow from next year's SSR points to cover the balance of your stay, if it costs over 100 points
3. Split your stay between SSR & OKW, booking both at the 11 month window. In other words, book 100 points worth of stay at SSR at the 11 month window and then book 100 points worth of stay at OKW at the 11 month window, and know that you are going to change resorts during your vacation, which is not necessarily a bad thing.
Good luck with your decision.

As noted there are several approaches. Many of us use all of them to one degree or another. For many though, the best option is to book both resorts covering the days you need then try to switch over at the 7 months window and wait list if not available. Another option is to book the days you think will be most difficult or least points (avoid weekends) at your planned destination then try to add at 7 months out. There are many variations on this them. While some like the bank and borrow EOY for each resort approach, I think it is far more risky overall.
