Hi,
DH recently bought me a new digital camera. It's the Kodak easy share 7590.
Its got a 10x zoom and the fancy professional lens. Its 5.0mp

I was so happy with this purchas as it has SO many features.
I have ben just putzing (is that even a word..lol) with it as I haven't really had any reason to use it for real until Friday night at my cousin's graduation.

Now I pride myself in being a pretty good photographer, but I really was not happy with the way the photographs turned out.

It was an inside graduation and I know I had the appropriate flash on.
When I use the zoom it seems that the subject gets blurry.

I was happy with a lesser model that did not have a 10x zoom, but DH talked me into the 10x zoom. Now I don't understand what the sence of having all that extra zoom is for if it's just going to be blurry.

Maybe If I use a tri-pod it wouldn't be blurry, but I don't really want to carry a tripod around with me all the time.

I know I have a lot of playing around yet to do (and I read the manual twice).
But in the meantime, does anyone have any advise, or does anyone have this model camera nad can offer any suggestions? thanks

hmm wish I could help you -
I have a lesser model Kodak easyshare and I LOVE it -
although it took a bit too get use to after using a HEAVY SLR for a long time...
hope you figure it out
do you have an image stabalizer?

When you use the 10x optical zoom and zoom in real close your flash will not work as well as if you were taking a pick close to you. The flash only reaches like 10 feet and if you zoom something in from far away you are losing all its effectiveness.

Now if you did not zoom in you may want to try changing your White Balance setting to indoor lighting, incandescent or flourescent. This may help. I have found that zooming in alot really kills my digital camera, although when using my digital zoom set on the best resolution, highest mega pixels, indoor lighting and using a tripod I was able to get pretty good shots of my daughters graduation and she was a bizillion miles away.

Keep practicing..but do it when the pics can be redone. It hurts to do it when you reallyneed those pics to come out perfect.

Also look on line for tips on taking indoor pics. hope this helps a little.

What is an imiage Stabalizer?

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I need to get a book ,, "Digital photography for dummies" or something like that.
There are still a lot of terms I don't know.

I think the key is you have to use it a TON! Not just 25 pictures but 100's! LOL! I am not kidding. With my first digital I ended up hating it for the longest time but then I just started shooting and shooting...I finally got so comfortable with it I could hold it steady on night mode and have clear crisp photos. Also play with how you take the picture. How you hold the camera. Are you more stable using the view finder or the screen? But again play with it and you may be amazed.
Also indoors with a flash the smaller digital just suck. No other word for it. That is the one reason the next camera I bought had a pop up flash. Granted it isn't as good as an external flash but it is better than what I had!
Image stablizer is something that is part of the camera. FOr some reason I don't think the kodaks had it. I just bought a fuji and it doesn't have it. Which I may regret later. (Other than that I love the camera).
Also how is with regular pictures? close ups? if you find all of them seem to be a tad bit blurry have the camera checked out. Also have some else take a picture. My friend was positive her camera was broken! I took a picture and it was clear and sharp.
My girls friend has that same camera as you and she loves it.
Good luck!

Is it a 10X "optical" zoom or "digital" zoom? Optical zoom is much preferred over digital - it's like the zoom on an SLR. The picture remains clear but the way the camera focuses zooms in on the subject so you don't lose clarity or resolution. Digital zoom, however, just takes what's in the frame of the picture and digitally zooms in - like what you can do on photo editing software. So too much digital zoom can make the pictures grainy because you're losing resolution. I have an option on my camera (Minolta Dimage) to shut the digital zoom off - and it's always off!

And I second the comments about the flash - digital camera are notorious for having small flashes and just because you can zoom in across the room does not mean the flash will illuminate the subject.

HTH! :cheer2:

I have the same camera as the OP. Don't know a lot about cameras. Mine takes GREAT pictures, except for the digital zoom. Even in perfect situations. As soon as it gets in the digital zoom even the slightest bit it starts to get grainy. I try to stay in the optical zoom. If someone knows how to get around this, I would love to know. :confused3

I have the cannon s1 Is and I turned the digital zoom on actually. Took some pictures yesterday at the pool zooming to 22x and printed them out at the kodak machine, they came out great. (It may of course have to do with having image stabiling on the camera) But yeah, play around with the camera a lot. maggie

I'm I "OP"?
I am going to take a guess here and say "OP" means original poster?????
Or does it mean "Other Poster"

Anyway, I am glad that you like the camera.
Yes, my camera (easyshare 7590) has the pop up flash, and I do like that it tells you when it needs to be up! I understand now about the optical zoom and digital zoom. Mine is 10x optical zoom and I don;t know how much the digital zoom is. DH keeps telling me to turn off the digitial zoom, but I don;t know how. I do know that you can zoom in as far as it will let you in optical zoom, then if you keep zooming, it will automatically switch to digital zoom. I can tell when it is going into digital zoom because the noise the zoom makes will stop. And also it will appear on the veiw finder that I am using the digital zoom now. But how do I turn it off completely?

Patty T- Did you take those pictures in your Sig with the Kodak camera that you have now. What model is it. MP? Zoom? I love that pic of the castle.
I am thinking I may get a small point and shoot camera just to carry in the parks.

Jenny 2-what dimage do you have? I have the Z1 and love it except for indoor shots in buildings (school, church, etc.) I'm not sure why but I think it has a hard time focusing in that type of lighting. Any ideas?

goofymompop- I can chance the white balance on my camera but am not sure what to change it too. My camera shoots great except in the above situations, maybe changing the white balance would help?

Any ideas from anyone else would be great too! Angel :confused3 :confused3

Yes all thre pix's in the siggie were taken with my Kodak Easyshare DX4530 5.0 megapixel the night ones were set on night mode.
Dh wanted to buy me the Nikon D70 but I really wanted something small to throw in the diaper bag - but it has become my main camera - I RARELY use the SLR anymore - only when it something I might want to blow up big - lol If only I had been able to get the castle shot with that camera ahe...

Patty, I have that exact same camera, and I have had so much trouble with night shots. I think I took all of my Spectromagic shots with the camera set at the Sports setting. I had to wait till the floats were very close to me before taking the pix. I couldn't get a single decent picture out of Fantasmic. I don't know what I was doing wrong. I also had trouble getting good shots from the Beauty and the Beast show. I have played around with this camera a lot. It's actually my DD's--not mine, but I seem to be the one who uses it most. I actually still had it with me at Disney while she was at cheerleader camp, and she never noticed it missing! Anywho, I just can't seem to get the hang of the night shots, and the camera seems to be very slow lately. How did you have such good luck with yours?

What card does this camera take?
If it is SD you may want to get a faster SD card. I dont' know what they are called but go to a camera store and talk to them.
ALso how old are you batteries? if they are AA and you have had them for a year or 2 you may want to buy new ones. They now make them at 2500 something...last much longer and faster response time.
Another thing, if your card is full or super huge, it will make the camera respond slower. You may not notice but again it depends on all the factors...
I find when I use the night mode it is best to use the eye piece. I feel like I have better control of the camera.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I just wanted to reply. I was using a 1 GB memory card that was half full, and the lithium batteries made for digital when I was using the camera. I bought the rechargable NiMH batteries during the trip. I think they were 2300 or so, and I noticed that it made a bit of a difference. I did try a new memory card (SD) also, but it didn't seem to help too much.

I have the Impact SD 128 mb card (CHEAP the day after t-day at walmart - I bought 2 at 14.99 each I think)

And the batteries are Kodak rechargeable Ni-MH battery pack that go with the charging station.
