:confused3 Backgound ;)we purchased a 160 contract at AKL with a june use year
 we made reservations for AKL for July for 8 nights, studio savannah view; 158 pts. When we made the ressies, I asked that the 2010 160 pts be applied to the vacation and requested to bank the remaining 2 pts

Disney made the resservations for us but used the 2011 pts and didnt bank anything:confused3

I contacted DVC last week and asked them to change it to use the 2010 pts for this years vacation and to bank the remaining pts, I think they did.

This is what the DVC members site shows as to our points:

Use Year June 2010
Total Annual Allotment of Vacation Points 160
Total Vacation Points Remaining 0
Total Vacation Points Available 0

Use YearJune 2011
Total Annual Allotment of Vacation Points 160
Total Vacation Points Remaining 162
Total Vacation Points Available to Bank 160
Total Vacation Points Available to borrow 160

Based upon my uneducated review of the use year info it appears that disney did apply the 2010 pts to this years vacation and I think banked the remaining two pts, am i correct:upsidedow

We plan (god and the economy willing) to return to WDW 1 x per year. We will most likely stay for simmiliar lengths of time and utilize between 140 and 160 pts per trip (we are studio folks) When should I bank the 2011 160 pts, right away or wait, what is the benefit if either option if any?

:worship:thanks for all your info

Mike

It's correct. 2010 points used, two banked into 2011.

Yes, the account information shows that you have no points remaining in the 2010 Use Year and 162 points available for the 2011 Use Year. In addition, 160 of those may be banked so you have 2 points banked from the 2010 Use Year plus the 160 for 2011.

Thos 2 banked points must be used by May 31, 2012 and the other 160 must be used, banked or transferred before the same date. Banking the 160 points from the 2011 Use Year will extend their useful life thru May 31, 2013

Enjoy! :)

If you are not going back to WDW during your 2011 use year, you will lose those 2 banked points. They did use your 2010 points and bank the extra two into your 2011 use year.
As long as you go to WDW before July of 2012, you should be able to use those 2 points.

You have plenty of time before needing to bank your 2011 points, I believe until the end of Feb. If you decide you want to use them after that, you will have to borrow your 2012 points...I would wait to bank until closer to your deadline. JMO.

It looks like the correct points were used for the reservation.

Things may have gotten confused when you asked to bank only 2 points. Your July 2011 trip is in your June 2011 Use Year. The only points you can use for that reservation are: June 2011 points, June 2010 points that have already been banked into your 2011 UY, and points borrowed from your June 2012 UY.

Until they bank the 2010 points into your 2011 UY, they are not available to be used for that reservation. What you needed to do was ask the MS CM to bank all 160 of the 2010 points first and then make the reservation. MS could have been more helpful but may have been confused when you asked to bank only 2 points.

As Lisa mentioned, your account is all set and they have used the banked 2010 UY points to cover your July 2011 trip.

With a June UY, you have until January 31st to bank the points. However, if you know you won't be using the 2011 UY pionts prior to May 31st, 2012 and want to take advantage of the 11 month booking window, you will have to bank those points prior to that call.

So, if you are going to call in August 2011 to book your July 2012 trip, you will have to bank the 2011 UY points prior to that point. This way, they will be banked and ready to use when you call.

It sounds like, however, that you will end up losing those banked 2010 UY 2 points if you don't plan to use them prior to May 31st, 2012.

Of course, since you only plan on using 140 - 160 points per year anyway, and still have all 160 2011 UY points available, you may want to consider adding a night or upgrading your room size so that you don't lose them--hate to see ANY points go unused!!!!:rotfl:

Just be sure, though, that you understand how the banking works so that you don't end up losing points the next few years. Since you got 2010 UY points when you bought and your first trip isn't until your June 2011 UY, you really have an "extra" years worth of points in your account to use up.

This happened to us and it has been great as we have used them to stay in bigger rooms.

Good luck!

it's tricky when you use it the first time. Once you use your points a couple of times it gets much easier. Have fun

:cool1:Thanks for all your help. :thumbsup2

So for our 2012 trip we will have 162 pts plus the 160 we recieve in June 2012. We wont be going before July 2012 so we will loose the 2 pts:guilty:.

For our 2012 trip; Assuming a summer trip again;

is it smarter to book a trip that uses all of the 2011 160 pts at a minimum because given our trip schedule, we would lose any remaining points that from 2011 that we dont use by May 31, 2013.

Assuming there is no room / day option for exactly 160 pts, should we schedule a trip that uses more than 160 pts utilizing some of the 2012 pts for the 2012 reservations so we are not in this situation again?:teacher:

If not going until July 2012 again, you will lose those 2 points you have left that are banked into 2011. You of course must bank your 160 June 2011 points into June 2012 use year to use them for a trip in July 2012. That banking needs to be completed by January 31, 2012. There is no rush. You will likely be calling about 11 months out in August 2011 to reserve that July 2012 trip so you can bank the points at the time you call to make the reservation.

For that next July 2012 trip you will have 160 banked and 160 regular points. If you are only going once a year in July, then make sure whatever trip you plan in July 2012 uses 160 or more points, which will avoid the issue of losing points you are facing now. That will likely be an annual issue for a while because what has happened is that you got 2010 points which you did not use in your June 2010 to May 2011 use year and thus you will keep having double points per year using banking until you start using more than 160 in a year.

In other words, your having those extra points has created the "misfortune" of your having to take longer trips to WDW annually for a while.

Yes, you want to always book a trip that uses at least the number of banked points you have in that UY or they will be lost if you don't plan to travel during that UY a 2nd time.

So, when you go to book 2012, you will basically start with 320 points (the banked 2011 UY points and your 2012 UY points) so you can use up extra by either going for a longer time or possibly, booking a 1 bedroom instead of a studio.
