We are considering buying a 150 contract with an April use year with all 150 points for 2015 available.

We would like to book a 270 point stay at our home resort for September 2016.

So my understanding is we would bank the 150 points for 2015 but would we then be able to make a booking for 270 points at our 11 month window?

Thanks for any advice on figuring this out.

You would have 150 points in your April 2015 UY that would be good for stays from April 1, 2015 through March 31, 2016. If you want to use them from April 1, 2016 through March 31, 2017, you would need to bank those points sometime prior to Dec 1, 2015. Then you would have the banked points from 2015, the current points from April 2016 and if you needed more than 300, you could borrow from April 2017.

You would book your home resort for a Sept 2016 reservation in October, 2015. You would need to bank those points before you could make the reservation.

Banking you move your current UY points forward 1 UY, they are stuck there.

Borrowing you move your next UY's points into your current UY, they are stuck there.

Banking and borrowing are final transactions and can not be reversed.

Thanks for the replies. I am just really confused on timing because I would want to BOOK during the 2015 use year but TRAVEL during the 2016 use year, using both my points from 2015 and 2016. I just wanted to be sure it would all work out.

When booking, it is not important what points you have at time of booking. But how many points you have available at time of travel.

You need to have the points required for the time of your stay.

So you can book that sept 2016 stay at your home resort in Oct 2015. So you need to have enough points to book that Sept 2016 reservation when you make it.

If a Sept 2016 reservation requires 270 points and it falls in your April 2016 UY, you need to have 270 points available for Sept 2016 to book it on Oct 2015. You have points in future UYs until your contract expires. If you own at SSR, you have 300 points every year until Jan 31, 2057 because it expires then.

You just can't use them except for the current year, one year banked and one year borrowed.

Everything is based on the time of the trip, not when you call. Any trip can be "paid" for using banked points from the UY prior to the trip, points from the UY of the trip, and borrowed points from the U Y after travel.

When you go to book at 11 months , the points from 2015 would need to be banked first, and then you could book. You'd want to do this before your banking window.

Understanding Use Year

It will help you better understand the booking, banking and borrowing rules as they pertain (or don't pertain) to use year.
