Please help me understand AirTran seat fees

I don't understand AirTran seating fees. I'd appreciate some help. We have flights from MCI-ATL connecting to ATL-MCO. Same thing back home. I was looking at the prices to pick your seats. I understand that some are $15 and some are $6. What I don't understand is how do they figure it. Let's say I want the $15 seats. Is it $15 from MCI-ATL then another $15 from ATL-MCO? Then the same on the way home? Or is it just $15 per flight each way? Three of us flying so $45 to Orlando and another $45 home to Kansas City? I hope I make sense. Thanks!!

You only pay the seat fee once each way, even with a connection.
