If I book 2 nights at a DVC resort on points and then another 2 nights cash (an AP discount would be nice!), how does that work? Do I risk having to switch rooms?

Oh, I'm just realizing now: any AP discount I might get would be for a regular WL room, not a villa room, right? So I would Have to switch rooms in this scenario. . .right?

Hmmm, this is becoming convoluted (which should mean I'm right at home, I guess :rotfl:).

Okay, how about I get 2 nights on points and 2 nights with a DVC cash discount (again I'm being hopeful). . .will we be able to stay in the same room or is there a risk that we would have to move . . .

Oh dear, those cheap airline tickets are getting me into trouble now!:rolleyes1

If you reserve the cash nights thru MS - with or without the discount - everything will be linked and you will not need to move.

If you reserve part of the stay using DVC points and the rest thru CRO (AP or other discount), they will not guarantee you would have the same room. they will try to do so, but it won't automatically happen.

You can reserve VWL villas thru CRO, but they wil be reserved thru different systems and cannot be linked automatically.

To expand on what Doc said...

DVC Villas are often available with an AP discount, but they must be booked through CRO (regular Disney reservations.) They can't be linked to guarantee you won't have to move, but they will note the request.

Just when I think I've got DVC figured out. . .I learn something new.

The latest thing I've learned is that I need more points!!:dance3:

I think this question is closely related to the original, but

We're booked for a studio for 3 nights 12/6-12/9 and then we upgrade to a 2bdr for the next 5 when friends arrive. Is it possible that they just open up the studio and the 1bdr and give us that 2dbr or will we have to move?

Make sure both reservations are in the same name. Ask that you be blocked into the same villa only have the door opened between. When you check in, ask again to make sure you are blocked into the same room. We did this a little over a year ago. We started in the one bedroom and when our friends arrived, they opened the door between after the other guests checked out and the room was cleaned.

I'll call member services tomorrow. Thanks, but won't they give their standard line that request are noted but not garunteed.

I doubt they will guarantee it.

You have to first be sure that your studio is a lockoff.

Yes, you will likely get that standard disclaimer. If you were going from a lock-off 2BR for the first part of your stay into a 1BR or studio, they can easily do it (although they still might not guarantee it). It is a little tougher to do it the other way, but I'd make the request when making the reservation and again at arrival (and I'd emphasize how much it will be appreciated if it can be done).

Good luck! :)

I just checked my ressie's and one just says studio, the other says dedicated 2 bdr. I will definitely call tomorrow and ask. Thanks all

If it's a dedicated 2 bedroom, you can't split off the studio. One advantage of that is you will have 2 queens in the 2nd bedroom (assuming this is SSR). If you get a lockoff with a studio, the second bedroom would have 1 queen and 1 sofabed.

got it. I just never asked for any special room so didn't understand why they just assigned me a dedicated 2bdr

They usually book the dedicated 2 bedrooms first, leaving the lockoffs to be booked as separate studios and 1 bedrooms.

Since you did not specifically request a lock-off unit, MS tends to automatically reserve dedicated 2 bedroom units if they are in inventory, this leaves the lock-off available as a one bedroom and studio available to other guests.

If you would like a lock-off you need to specifically request it when you make the reservation.

Generic to both this and the original question. The rooms have to be through MS to be linked and they have to be exactly the same unit type/size/view. You can't actually link CRO reservation to DVC ones or different size units. The second part applies to CRO and to keeping consecutive reservations together in different size units. studio or 1 BR to 2 BR and vice versa. You cannot link them and this cannot be guaranteed, even when you check in. You CAN request it and they are good about honoring that request if it's workable but as noted, this would not work with a dedicated 2 BR or dedicated smaller unit. And you will have to check out then back in again on the changeover day even if you can keep the same unit and won't know for certain you have the same unit until you actually check out of the first unit and back in again.
