I am currently investigating travel insurance for our upcoming WDW and 4 night Disney Cruise vacation. I would like to know which travel ins. companies/plans you have used. I am especially interested in hearing from people that have had to make a claim or know of somebody who did. One area I want to make sure we have adequate coverage for is emerg. evacuation. I am not planning on having to use it, but I know it is quite costly. How much coverage is needed for that area?

Thanks for your help!

Check first with you own insurance company to see if you have coverage. No use paying for double coverage.

I highly recommend both travel and health insurance - regardless of whom you buy it for - have your questions ready and ask, ask, ASK!

There is no stupid question, only the unasked question.

go to Insuremytrip.com you can get prices/info on a lot of different companies.

I do not have any experience with a claim, but when I was shopping for my cruise I talked with a ton of travel agents, and the most recommended insurance company was Access America. Apparently they have pretty comprehensive coverage at reasonable rates. No experience, but thought I'd pass along the info. :)

I booked my crusie 2 months ago for October 2003 and did not purchase insurance yet. When do I need to do so?

Call your insurance company, Tiff and see if you are presently covered then - check around.

We take Disney's insurance because of Mom's age (not covered under most plans).

I booked with mouseearvacations and they suggested using CSA...which were the same quotes that I got with insuremytrip.com. Every little bit of savings helps! :)

Thanks for the info on insuremytrip.com. I just went there and bought my insurance.! Lisa

Gotta love the disboards!!! ;) These people are chock-full of information!! :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

We used TravelGuard on our first cruise that was cut short when my DMIL passed away the second night of the cruise.
The disney folks on board were wonderful, helping make arrangements for when we arrived in St. Martin. The ship could not just pull over for us, so we had to wait to go home.

TravelGuard did cover the cost of the trip home ( unbeleivbably expensive- gee thanks, American Airlines for being so helpful in our hour of need:rolleyes: )
But we were covered only up to the price of the cruise, even though we had insured our TRIP from start to finish.
The cruise was prorated from the morning we left the ship, even though the vacation was over upon hearing the news. ("It's not our fault you decided not to enjoy yourselves till you had to get off the ship. We did not insure you having a good time"- Someone actually said that to me!)
We talked to folks all the way up the line, trying to figure out why we paid to insure our entire trip, not just the cruise portion, if they were not going to pay for the cost of our trip home.
A letter to the company president went unanswered.
There are lots of companies out there, this one won't get my business again.

Sorry to hear about your problems with that company. Thanks for sharing it with us here on the disboards! Maybe it will prevent someone else from having the same problems...

nicurnc - I am so glad you posted that about TravelGuard - I think it's pathetic that someone actually said that to you and to not be acknowledged by the President of the company. Well, keep fighting this and don't stop - if nothing else let them know that you have posted this on a website and others will now be wary of them.
American Airlines needs a talking to also about courtesy and emergency service. Pathetic that they could have done so much and did so little -

I am so very sorry for your tragic loss. It truly was a very sad thing to happen at a time that was to be so joyous -

Has anyone ever used CSA. I just got quotes at insuremytrip, and they had a very cheap plan. My health insurance will cover me out of the country, so I really only need medical evacuation coverage. (we are cruising on dvc points). Thanks for any help you can give me.
