Hi..

I just broke up with my fiance on Wednesday, and since now I'm taking the kids by myself, I had to downgrade from POR royal guest room to Pop Century. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to afford it.

I'm going to try to make this trip as fun as possible for my daughter. She is so sad. She really wanted him to be her step-dad. I feel bad for her.

But anyway, not looking for sympathy, just need to get hyped up for Pop. I stayed there in May of 2005 and loved it. But I'm having a hard time after having the royal rooms in sight.

Also we'll be spending a couple of non-park days and now we won't have the pool slide either.

One more little complication: my son is autistic so he will need constant supervision from me.

Are there things to entertain the kids during the day at Pop? Activities by the pool?

Thanks!

Just wanted to say sorry about your break up. That has to be tough.

I'm glad you still get to go on your trip, that should cheer the kiddos up! :thumbsup2

We stayed at Pop in 2009 and we LOVED it! It's a very fun resort with clean rooms, good bus transportation and yummy food court!

The pools are very cool, though we were there in November and it was quite chilly so we did not use them. I do believe that all pools have daily activities, though I could be wrong!

Keep your head up and enjoy your trip!!!

Thank you! We're going in November too. 11/15-11/27.

I heard it's typically pretty warm during the day.. then maybe we'd need a light jacket at night.

This is what I'm hoping anyway!

Sorry to hear of your situation.

We stayed at POP last year and absolutely loved it! Larger than life Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head, an outdoor Twister game, and the food court is above average. Our room was so clean - no problems with Mousekeeping whatsoever. CMs were friendly and bus service good, though we did have to stand.

Go without hesitation and enjoy yourselves!

Sorry for your situation :(

We stayed at POP and LOVED it! If you are just in a standard room, I would call and put in a request for a lake facing room. You have a beautiful view and still are close to everything!

The pools are still fun, and so is the water pad thingy. You are steps away from AoA which will be really fun to walk around. The food court at POP is better than POR (at least in my families opinion!) and the bus service is a little better. In that you don't have to circle around the whole resort before you go, and possibly not get a seat if you are the last stop.

Have fun and enjoy your trip! I'm sure your kids will have a blast no matter what!

OP sorry to hear, it has to be even more difficult to deal with considering your kids...hang in there! Probably not what you want to hear but at least you didn't have to cancel the trip entirely although i'm understand your struggles with all the upheavals in your life.

Why not try and work in something 'new' you hadn't planned for this revised itinerary if it works within your budget? Perhaps a day at a water park, trip to sea world or extra day at the parks. Having sole responsibility for the kids is difficult on a vacation. Have you considered doing shorter hours in the parks with pool time every day vs the off days?

ps we like the POP food court a lot and give it the nod over PORFQ's too...have made the drive from other resorts just to eat lunch there.:thumbsup2

good luck, hope you enjoy your trip:)

Thanks for the replies.

I thought the splash pad was closed now? I wish it wasn't. Big time bummer.

Are we able to use AoA's pool? That would be fun.

I have a preferred pool view. That will be a good spot for us, not too far to the pool.

The reason I'm not going to the parks is that I can't get more than a ten day park ticket. We'll be there for twelve days. So I have no choice.

I had considered the waterparks but I heard that only BB will be open and it doesn't look nearly as fun as TL. Figures that'll be closed. Anyway I'm considering some other fun things for those days but I was hoping not to have to travel all over creation on our resort days. I'm going to be exhausted! :)

I agree with all above. Pop is great fun.

You won't be able to use AoA pools. But Pop has three pools with different themes, so you can pool hop right there.

For the two days off from the parks, you can visit other resorts. Take the the boat from Magic Kingdom (if you can get that close and not go in the gates) to Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge. You can even walk between the two.

Check at Pop for a schedule of events at the resort. They might show a movie pool side at night.
Every morning at 8:00 A.M. in Classic Hall “The Twist" plays and cast members hit the floor to twist it out and start the day right. In the evening at 6:00 P.M it’s time to do "The Hustle" so grab your dancing shoes and be sure to join in!

You are there for a long time. Have fun!

Pop is awesome! There's lots to do there. You could easily spend a day touring the resort to see the giant figures, eating at the food court, playing in the arcade, participating in the activities, swimming in the pools, walking along the lake and reading the signs, going over the bridge to AoA, etc. My kids LOVE Pop, and they loved it even more when they were little like your kids (now that they're teens, their tastes are changing).

we have went for years and so during the course of that have stayed at all the deluxe but AKL and all the moderates and POR is our favorite in those and we have stayed at the all stars all three of those and we then tried POP and we just love it. they have a lot to do for the kids there and have nice pools and the bus service is best of any property. they have a movie as well each night or did last fall. have taken my teen grand kids and they have been to POR and they actually liked POP better. POP has arcade as well and ping pong table. and they play games in the pools.

Be excited. Be very excited. :cool1:

Sorry, couldn't help myself; I'm not trying to belittle what's happened with your fiance, but you guys can (and I'm sure you will), have a great time at POP - I've stayed there multiple times with my family, and we all love it. :thumbsup2 As previously noted, their food court is great - we're DVC, and mostly stay at AKL now, but we've gone to POP for the food court! I think they have activities at all the resorts during the day for the kids, but the theming is very cool, and very kid-friendly - just walking around, seeing all the giant characters and such is fun. :) I didn't see anything about how old your kids are, but there is a playground between Classic Hall and the 1970s theme buildings. There's a Twister game near the giant foosball players. And of course, there are 3 pools, each themed differently.

I, and everyone here, is wishing you a fabulous vacation, and of course a little Disney pixiedust:. Enjoy the time with your kids!!! :dance3:

Thanks to all.

I would really like to visit AoA but I'm worried that if my son sees the pool, I won't be able to keep him away from it. He'll have a major meltdown and then I'll have to try and get him back to our resort while he's having a huge tantrum. That's where things get sticky.

I am pleased to hear about games by the pool. My daughter will like that.

The kids are 8&9. My daughter will be turning ten while we're there.

:grouphug: HUGS...Sorry to hear about your Fiance :guilty:

FWIW WE LOVE POP CENTURY...
Check out my siggie TRIP REPORT...
KIDS love the splash jets
We love the HIPPY DIPPY POOL and the only value where you get a WATER view! We are excited to take a tiny walk around AoA next trip. :dance3:

We are staying here a few days then heading to a condo...

ENJOY YOUR TRIP. The kiddos will love it.

You'll definitely want to let them know it's her birthday, and ask for a birthday call - she'll love it! Ask for a birthday pin at the resort or go to guest services in the first park you go to and get one - celebrations get attention at Disney, and at the very least, she'll be getting a lot of "Happy Birthday" wishes from a lot of people, at best, she'll get some special Disney magic (although that's kind of hit or miss. :confused3).

Thank you, yes we sure will get the pin. :) I have it marked on the ADRs too.

We love Pop! They do have activities during the day at the pool, with music. The staff are great. They even give out game prizes like rubicks cubes. They show movies each night at the pool too which is fun. The arcade is awesome. It has prize redemption, which my son loves. I do love POR, its very pretty, but it lacks the fun vibe that Pop has.

There are a lot of free things that you can do with your kids at DTD, also maybe take the bus over to a Monorail Resort and then you can ride the monorail around and around. Touring other resorts can be fun and you get a lot of chances for good photos.

Yes we have a few splash pads around town here too and they DO love them. But I'd heard the one at Pop is permanently closed now. Is this true?

I would love if I heard incorrectly.

yes....Goofy's Pop Jets are premanently closed.
The pipes have supposedly been removed and the holes covered over with a new covering.
