After over a year without my long time best girl - yellow labrador - I am ready to bring another pet into our home. After long consideration I've decided to return to my childhood and purchase a toy poodle - color yet to be determined - show or agility quality.

If anyone familiar with the breed could direct me to reputable breeders or websites that would help me in that direction I would appreciate it.

We are looking locally but a purebred toy poodle puppy is tough to find in our area. We live in the midwestern area of the country.

Thanks :goodvibes

EDITED TO ADD:

PLEASE do not let this turn into a shelter, adopt versus purchase debate as soooooo many other threads have when someone asks for specific information on purchasing a pet.

I am ONY looking to purchase a show/agility quality toy poodle puppy from a very reputable breeder.

If anyone has knowledge on this specific request please let me know :goodvibes

I just adopted a beautiful poodle puppy from Petfinder! She is in my avator. She is amazing and smart, and beautiful! There are so many beautiful animals in the shelters that need homes.

1st thank you for your comments.

HOWEVER... and I will go back and edit my 1st post but PLEASE do not let this turn into a shelter, adopt versus purchase debate as soooooo many other threads have when someone asks for specific information on purchasing a pet.

I don't know anything about poodles but I show great Danes. The best way to find a good breeder is go to a dog show and start talking to the breeders there. You can get a catalogue at the show that will have the dogs entered and their breeders and owners. You could also look up the national poodle club and get breeder referrals from there. Good luck and thank you for not just buying a pup out of the newspaper.

A friend adopted a 3 yr old. He was abused and shook like a leaf when she got him. He has turned out to be the nicest dog.

I happen to have a rescue dog, but I don't think there's anything wrong with buying a puppy from a reputable breeder. Before I found my mutt at an adoption event, I was planning on buying a sheltie pup from a breeder.

However you need to be very careful to avoid puppy mills!

I'd start with either going to a show, or getting a list of breeders from the AKC website. That won't rule out puppy mills, but it will give you a good place to start. Then ask a million questions, expect them to ask you a million questions, and check up on references etc . . .

Good luck! Toy poodles sure are cute!
