Please help me figure out when I can book for Summer 2009 with new booking policy

I am confused about the new booking policy - my hubby and I are still reading through all of the posts in order to wrap our heads around it. For this reason, we are confused as to when we can book our AKV stay for next summer (July or Aug. not sure yet)?

If we want to check in on say Sunday, July 26th, for instance, when can we call to book? Isn't it still 11 months out? I just read a thread entitled "Who booked for July 4th 2009?" How is that possible when it's more than 11 months out? Have I missed something?

If anyone can explain this to me, it would be great as I seem to be missing something. We want to try and book concierge, which I know will be almost an impossibility, but I want to make sure I know exactly when I can call. I am a teacher, so we normally go 2 weeks each July (some years it's beginning, some in middle and some at end of month), but we can also go in August if there is concierge available as it may be a slower time.

Some one correct me if I'm wrong here......but I beleive the new booking window is that you can book a 7 night stay beginning with the first day. Before you would have to wait until the 11 month of the check out date before booking all the days.....now its 11 months from chech in and you can book up to 7 days.

Technically, you should be able to call at exactly 11 mths (for home resort) or 7 mth (for non-home) from the date you check in. You can book up to 7 nights at this point. If your reservation will be more than 7 nights, you have two options, you can call the next day and add your 8th night, then call the day after to add your 9th night and so on OR you can call before Day 7 and book the next few nights (again only up to 7 nights from 11 mths from the day you called). Again, some of the policy is still unclear, but this is my understanding of it.

The new policy allows members to make a reservation based on the arrival date plus the next 6 nights. If you want to arrive on July 26, 2009 you may call to make the reservation on August 26, 2008 and could reserve that night thru August 1 (check out on 8/2/09) - all with one phone call based on availability when you call.

Those who have already reserved July 4, 2009 could call on July 27, 2008 to reserve June 27, 2009 thru July 4, 2009 with one call - so as of right now it's possible for someone to have already reserved dates thru July 7, 2009.

This helps, thanks Doc, brownie and DVC Disney! Got it - in order to book July 26, I can call on Aug 26th, and then add up to 6 nights at one time (we need to book 10 days), but only a few of those days will be concierge, so here's hoping we can concierge at AKV next summer!

On August 26 you will be able to reserve 7 nights with the July 26 arrival - but only if July 26 is available when you call. Otherwise your only option will be to waitlist and then call back the following day and try again.

In addition, you can only reserve up to 7 nights if all of the nights are for the same room type. If you want a Concierge villa for nights 3 and 4, you will not be able to reserve those on the 26th since that would be a separate reservation. If all 10 days are the same room type, you could reserve the first 7 with the first call and then add the other dates by calling one-day-at-a-time - so all 10 days could be reserved with 4 phone calls ...OR... with one phone call if you wait until August 30 to call since you could still reserve the first 3 nights plus the last 7 (based on availability).

The policy is very similar to the old one except now you can book 11 months and 7 days in advance at your home resort and each additional night each following day with the same reservation #

7 months and 7 days at another resort and each additional night each following day with the same reservation #

MS will ask you if this is you last day your going to book so they know to close the reservation and send you your paperwork.

Thanks all! My hubby and I are going to start planning for vacation this weekend, so this helps. Normally we don't have any issues with booking at all, but I just wanted to make sure we totally understood the new booking policy.

We are hoping to get AKV Concierge for a few days, and then for the remaining 7 days, either AKV Kidani (11 months), or, Beach Club at 7 months, so we still have to wait awhile to secure that ressie.

Just a reminder. If you are booking two different room categories, it is my understanding that, you would need to book them separately. For instance, if you want the AKV Concierge for 5 days and Kidani room for 7 days, then at 11 mths to checkin of the AKV Concierge, you would be able to book the 5 days, but you will not be able to book the Kidani until 11mths to check in of the kidani room. I hope that makes sense. Since they are two different category rooms, they are two separate reservation and so you couldn't book the first 7 days (5+2) of your vacation on the first call.
